Payg

Options
Hi

My dad has an old payg chip in his phone - it's tmobile. He puts £10 on it about every 8 weeks. Obviously, he is a very light user. However, he only makes a few calls over the 8 weeks or so, then his £10 is gone.

I think it's time for me to get him a new chip - can anyone recommend a low price payg? My dad doesn't text and he doesn't use the internet either. He's an OAP and would obviously like his credit to stay on the phone - basically, not to loose unused credit.

Grateful for any info.

£20 for the sim, £15 of which gets credited to your account to use as payg credit.

Allowance of 150 mins, 300 texts and 500mg data for free each month. No need to top up unless you use all your credit (unlikely in this situation, as he won't go over the allowances) :)

Why do you call a sim card 'chip'?
I think the cheapest 'no thrills' PAYG is 3p/min at 'Three' (handset has to have 3g).

However, if 150 minutes per month suffice, then Ovivo is a better option. It costs one-off £20 and IIRC £15 is credited to the account. Then you get 150 minutes every month for free indefinitely.

The SIM card is a chip in the sense it needs electricity to work - an electronic chip (Integrated circuit).

With either of the two suggestions above (both of which are good) you will need to ensure the phone is unlocked.

Ovivo use the Vodaphone network and the 3 network requires a 3G phone.

Giffgaff is 10p per minute and as long as you make a call once every 3 months, the credit will remain and the sim will stay active.

Giffgaff has serious technical problems every 2-3 weeks, no detailled billing and is relatively expensive.
10p a minute compared to Three 3p a minute doesn't look very impressive.

A few calls at £5 a month smells like premium rate calls .

I think what has happened, its a very old sim and is on an original tariff where you get charged something like 40p per minute.
