Please help . BT to Tesco

Hi,

My elderly parents are shifting from BT home phone and broadband to Tesco home phone and BB, as BT monthly bill is just to expensive for them.

They received a letter from Tesco to advise swap over day is 26th November but their home phone has been disconnected since about midday today.

Could anyone advise how long it takes to get reconnected?

Thanks

  • Tesco use the Cable and Wireless network to provide service,so its not just a question of moving from one part of BT to another, but its normal for them to connect to there network on the transfer date given by them.

Be aware they usually put up their prices each year just before xmas.

Hi oldharryrocks -I like that name:)

Thanks for your quick reply . Tesco advised us by letter that it will be tomorrow that Tesco would take over the line, is it normal for BT to disconnect you the day before ? So leaving my parents without a phone line now.

Normally the service should switch over seamlessly. But they are presumably switching from a normal BT Line,to a Cable and Wireless ( Unbundled Line). So things can happen.

"Once you've applied it may take up to 3 weeks to move to us. During this time we will confirm your bank details, cancel and transfer your existing service from BT. During the transfer your phone service will be unaffected. We'll deal with it as quickly as possible and will keep you informed on progress."

I suggest your parents call Tesco Customer Service to make sure it will be up and running tomorrow.

Oh ... Maybe not good to switch after all ... This is the trouble - the powers that be, say, switch to save money, however - they don't explain the potential hassle. !!

My parents phone still not working!! Sorry, dont understand regarding unbundled !

I will get them to ring tomorrow ...

    Thank you so much -

Basically Local Loop Unbundling or LLU to its friends is the process whereby telecomms companies and ISPs can put their own equipment into BT's telephone exchanges. Utilising this equipment they can offer telephony and broadband services which are not reliant on BT.

I have just moved from BT to a LLU service and my line was dead for less than 5 minutes on the date advertised. I only noticed because my BB went off. The engineer must have been sitting twiddling his thumbs whilst Mrs m was jabbering with her sister for half an hour as it went off just after she put the phone down ;) When did the letter from BT state the line was being terminated, I had a letter well in advance and an e-mail from them on the day.
  • I am having a similar problem, I feel as though sometimes it's more hassle than what it's worth!

I had no problem going from BT to Sky. The line was down for a very short time; an absolute maximum of one hour, as that is the time I was away from home.

Hi molerat - letter from BT says service would end on Monday 25th and letter from Tesco advises their service will start today, Tuesday 26th.

BT cut them off yesterday at midday and my parents landline is still not working. I rang Tesco this morning and they advise their landline should be connect by midnight today !!

I agree with you - but BT was just too expensive !

I am really hoping that Tesco can deliver today, although nearly 3pm and their line is still not working !

Have you swapped to tesco ??
