Wow, 8k is a BIG cut in wages!
I won't be going to any Christmas parties this year, not really in the mood what with everything, I think I probably saved at least £50. Under normal circumstances, if I WAS going, I'd enjoy it, because when you work hard all year you deserve some fun and its only one meal
I managed to list 18 items tonight and have a huge pile waiting to be listed. If they all sell it will be nice, but I'll be happy if I just sell a couple.
I've decided to cancel my meat order with the local butcher and instead buy a frozen turkey from the supermarket. I don't feel bad because they won't miss my order as they're always busy this time of the year and instead of spending about £60 - £80 on meat, I'll get away with spending about £25 (hopefully!). My boys will never know the difference. If the plates are piled high enough, they're happy!
I forgot to mention that I got paid for that work I did. That cheque was safely paid into the Bank yesterday
Not sensible yet, but I am learning

Help I folded!! I bought a dress tonight after work in a local supermarket - £10 in the sale but it looks the biz! Ill see what my daughter thinks tomorrow then decide if Im gonna keep it!
Definitely cancel your meat order, a frozen turkey and supermarket gammon are as good to the untrained palate and will save a fortune. Ive been doing that for years and everyone loves my xmas dinner :j
This year my kids and I are doing secret santa, money is short all round with all 3 of them travelling or paying off student loans so it will be interesting to see how this works out. We have agreed to £30 for the present and as you can imagine that will a considerable saving.
Every little counts.:T
I hope you get quick responses to your items.

I think you can be forgiven for a £10 dress at Christmas. Its really MSE if you work it out "per wear/per party"!
Nothing much to update before I go to work, but it helps keep me on the straight and narrow if I feel answerable to someone.
I wish I'd thought of having a secret santa, that would have saved me quite a bit, but all gifts are bought now and nothing put on plastic for a change.
The boys are getting less this year. I've explained the situation at work to them and anyway, DS1 earns more than me and DS3 isn't far behind! DS2 is the only one looking for work at the moment, his job came to an end a few weeks ago and not a sniff of anything else since then. I'm hoping he'll go back to Uni to finish his degree when the penny drops that life in the real world isn't as easy as he thought!
The only spend I'm planning for today is a bag of chips at lunchtime . Don't know why but I really fancied some chips yesterday smothered in loads of salt and vinegar
I also need to top up the car with diesel. Another £30 should keep me going for the rest of the week.
Perhaps I should have put it in my signature, but I also have a car loan I'm paying off. The interest on this was front loaded and the DDs go out of the Bank every month, so at the moment I'm just going to let that run. If I lose my job I may have to sell my lovely car, and pay it off, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it
I'd better be going, I hope everyone has a nice peaceful Sunday xNationwide cc - Balance 7/1/14 £2720.17 - Current balance £2714.10Halifax cc - Balance 7/1/14 £2779.86 - Current balance - £2751.43Savings - Balance 7/1/14 £750.00 - Current balance - £4000 -
Back again!
Just checked my online banking and if all goes according to plan I should end the month with £100 left in the account. This is unheard of for me, so I'm really pleased about that
I have a few Eb*y watchers but no bids yet - I'm living in hope!
Spends today were chips for lunch and they were very very nice

Hello spendy, I've been lurking and now... well I'm not. You seem really motivated :T
I only heard about getting a christmas dress a couple of years ago, but I don't really understand it. I spend my christmas day in my PJs :rotfl:
Yay for chips!0 -
Go you spendy, £100 at the end of the month:j
That will be me soon! What are you going to do with it? :money:
I love chips too but am frantically cutting down this week so I can fit into my xmas dress this weekend :rotfl:
As for PJs on xmas day sounds like bliss :jThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I hope the £100 will still be there, but now It's down in black and white you all know about it, so I have to be good!Nationwide cc - Balance 7/1/14 £2720.17 - Current balance £2714.10Halifax cc - Balance 7/1/14 £2779.86 - Current balance - £2751.43Savings - Balance 7/1/14 £750.00 - Current balance - £4000 -
Good morning!
Not a lot to report this morning really except that I gave in and bought a coffee on the way to work
I've updated my signature slightly because I managed to get something refunded to my credit card to that's come down to below £3k now.
The atmosphere is very subdued at work today, you can't blame people really. We should know more by the end of the week.
Trust me to get my real LBM just before things go pear shaped at work - I hope its not too late to turn things around.

Good morning to one and all :T
I have never been more conscious of spending and trying to save as much as I have this last week. I wish I had found this site a long, long time ago, but sure better late than never.
You will have £100 at the end of the month and how amazing will that feel.:)
If I can just cover my bills (including loan, overdraft fees and credit cards) I will be a very happy person!!
Have a great SF day. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hey spendy
Just read your post. It's strange how coffee is a common theme with savers.
Only yesterday did I stop myself calling into have a coffee, not once but twice. At least £4 saved. Im going to start counting backwards and listing the money I havent spent - I think that might be quite motivational for me and also when I do go for a coffee it will seem like a real treat not just the usual. :j
Try and keep your spirits up and head down in work even if the others are feeling gloomy. Positivity is the best form of coping (I find). We all reach cross-roads in our lives or several cross-roads but it's how we manage the challenge that gets us through
