Take your point and have already approached one photographer. BUT not convinced that this is best way. Yes, if photographer would be willing to let me take some of main photographs but I suspect I would be carrying bags most of time!

One other point - no, no-one wants something for nothing, but you are only referring to monetary value. If it is mutually beneficial then both parties would gain something as well as pay a price (my price would be my time, the bridal party's price would be the risk that I've never done a wedding party before).

And, as this would be moneysaving, then I still think this is a good place to post.

Brenny I'm a pro and Saying risk to any bride will put them straight off, I've worked as a photographer 23 years since leaving school. Believe me you can learn a lot by working with another photographer even if you do have to a bit of bag and reflector holding(you will learn more that the stuff you learnt in college). I have a second photographer that works with me If its a big wedding you need 2 to get pictures of all the guest not just Bride and Groom. Work with a pro and when you get good enough they will use to do the extra weddings they receive.. Sorry if you were based in cheshire I would offer you chance to work with me. Good Luck and don't use the word risk have more confidence in your work otherwise you should be doing the job.

Please remember its there one special day and respect that....

Thanks for your advice - I've now "done" three weddings and one civil partnership, with more lined up, so feel confident now - I have really enjoyed the experience and thank everyone for giving me (and my colleague on the day) the opportunity. From the feedback I believe that everyone has been delighted with the results.

However, if there are any experienced "pros" out there in Sussex/Surrey area who would like a hand please get in touch.

I think this thread is fab! Its a shame that by the time i get married all of you lot will be in the pro category!

I wouldnt hesitate to have an amateur photographer at my wedding. I know the pro people are against this idea, but brenny isnt going to do an half arsed job for her own portfolio! She has a vested interested in herself as well as the couple. I think that makes for some good photography!

at the end of the day, youre marrying a man/woman you love, the best memories are going to be the pictures in your mind.
