"then you won't be acomplete novice"

    "some two-bob amateur"

Well, not much to say to that - thanks!

Fair enough, don't take my advice but I've been in the business for a while now and I am confident my advice is sound.

IMO, a bridal party is stupid if they run the risk of some two-bob amateur doing their photos for free.

I see your point, but lots of brides, like myself, cannot afford to pay hundreds for photos...As it is we have having to rely on family to take good photos as we just cannot budget to pay photographers prices....some would say dont get married unless you can afford to do it properly, but after ten years we figure we are never going to be able to afford the great big fairytale wedding..but hey - ho!!!

Benny...I dont suppose you would come to suffolk??

My friends would have been grateful for this offer when they got married. They couldn't afford a photographer and have mine and other friends photos that I have "played" with as their memories.

What an extremely generous and unselfish offer from you - good luck in the future.

Not a good way to sell yourself mate!!

NO-ONE will want a photographer for nothing - you get what you pay for.

If you're going to do something for free, then offer to be a pro's assistant for a few weddings. If you've done a C&G course, then you won't be acomplete novice and therefore a pro could use someone like yourself for help.

Contact all the wedding photographers in your local area and offer your services - that way you'll be able to see how a pro does it and pick up some hints and tips. And don't email them - that is lazy - speak to them over the phone or popinto their studio.

If you're serious abotu a career in photography, then it is bloody hard work getting out there and selling yourself. Posting on a MSE forum is not a good tactic, trust me.

I have seen at least 50 people take up these offers that people have posted on confetti or hitched, the same with FYEO shoots.

I would definatly take someone up on this offer if they can show me a few sample shots they have taken so your comment about no-one taking up these offers is quite off the mark.

If you fancy photographing a re-enactors C15th wedding at Elvaston castle Derbyshire, I have friends coming up from Crawley for my wedding Sept 1st, could offer you a lift. ;)

Thanks very much for your very kind offer.

The problem with venues a long way away is that I wouldn't be able to visit the venue/meet the bride and groom and I think this would be essential for a successful day (photographically speaking!).

So thanks again, and I truly hope you all have wonderful days, but I am still looking for somewhere in the South East.

    Hi there,
I think this is really generous, I think it's a great idea to meet the couple and show your portfolio, my sister is a photography student so I can understand the need to extend your portfolio and experience particularily if you're intending to strike out on your own. How about stating that you'd be willing to travel if the costs are covered, compared to £500 to £800 for a professional photographer most people would be happy to pay for travel costs. I would, hope this helps and you can sort something out that's mutually beneficial. Good Luck with your course.

If this person were willing to travel to MK my daughter would willingly take them up on their offer, not because she is stupid merely the fact that she and her fiance do not have much money and they see the act of getting married as more important than shelling out lots of money they cannot afford and will have to pay back to the bank.

I think it is a really nice offer and obviously not everyone would be willing to take it up for various reasons.
