£2.40 for a dozen, presumably free range, eggs sounds great! I'm so jealous, I'm now looking up veg box schemes in my area, they work out roughly the same price as going to the supermakret(dependent on quantities) so it's very tempting but maybe not within my budget.

My issue is I go to Mr T and buy out the shop instead of just buying what I need, so I figure if I get a veg box (on trial basis for 1 month with hubby's consent...lol) I won't need to go to Mr T all the time....I can get basics from the Spar round the corner and do one Mr T online either fornightly or monthly, using up all the current offers at the time and stocking up on the household stuff.

Looking forward to getting the meals underway....imagine have to actually chop carrots instead of getting them frozen or pre-diced!! :o

I think thats a great price for your fruit and veg...I was paying £14.50 for that amount of veg alone...it was organic, but i had to cancel my order due to lack of value for money...and our local fruit n veg shop is even more expensive(and not always very fresh either)
I would gladly pay £12.50 for your delivery...and thanks, its put me in the mood to check out vegeboxes again.

I've only ever had one veg box - and although very happy with the quality, I couldn't understand why there was large cabbage, large cauliflower, large swede, lots of kale and carrots but only three onions, half a pound of tomatoes, and about six potatoes.

What on earth was the point of only six potatoes with all that other veg shrug.gif.
  • Hello everybody!

The idea for this thread came to me last night - which means I'm a bit slow as I was discussing this with friends a couple of weeks ago, but didn't quite make the connection!

I get a veg box every other week. There are some discussions on here as to the relative merits of veg boxes, so I won't go into that here.

But one of the criticisms of veg boxes is that it's difficult to plan meals ahead.

What I do is when the veg box arrives I check out what I've got and then think what I could make with it and plan my meals that way - I guess you could call it letting the veg take the lead.

A really nice side benefit of this is that I have found lots of new recipies - if I have somthing I haven't cooked before or I want to try a new way with cauliflower (for example) I'll have a look for a new recipe. I've found some great new favorites this way!

So my idea for this thread is: People post what they've got in the veg box that week and what they're planning to cook, and if they have something they don't know what to do with, and we can share recipies and ideas. How does that sound?

    Hi karmachilovething,

We have an existing thread on the very same subject:

What's in my organic fruit & veg box today!

I'll add your thread to that one later.

  • I had a brilliant very mixed box last week but this week I have kale, cavallo nero, sprout tops and caulie as well as potatoes and carrots. I don`t like the box at all this week and have had to put some of the greens into lakeland green bags as I cannot see the two of us eating all that kale in a few days.

I love greens steamed with something really rich and creamy like a potato dauphinois (sp?) or macaroni cheese - it makes the creamy rich thing seem less of an indulgence and the greens seem less worthy IYKWIM! Also steamed they shrink alot so maybe that would help with you greens overload.
