No, it's come to something when you can't look after yourself, and expect to be spoon-fed, in perpetuity.

You don't seem to understand that there are many of us who want you to be sanctioned, and who think that it's morally right.

In which case, you should agree that schemes such as the WP, it's predecessors and probable successors are all redundant.

How does sanctioning someone for being 5 minutes late or for being late from an interview that happened to be on their signing day suddenly make them more 'job ready'?

Well, for one thing it points out to them that it is not acceptable to be late. Can you really not see that it's not on to be late for meetings or interviews?

I really have no sympathy if someone turns up late, is sanctioned, and so goes cold or hungry. People need to learn that actions have consequences, yet posters on here seem to want to just ignore the rules, and still get free money. It beggars belief, this bizarre sense of entitlement.

As I've pointed out before, my first job in banking required me to be there at 06:40, ready to work. In the six years I was there, I was never late by so much as a second, and was never, ever off sick. If I could do that, every time, why can someone on the dole not show some respect for the system, and get in on time?

But sometimes people can't help being late, for example there could be an accident, bus/car could brake down etc. I do agree that people should not be allowed to be continually late, there is very unlikely to be a genuine reason for consistent lateness. However you are not even given one chance, it is a sanction whatever the reason. Can you name me a job where if you are late once you get your pay stopped for a month? you might get a percentage docked I would agree with this but not the whole months money!

I have recently had to sign a form at the JC to say I agree I am not allowed to late nor am I allowed to be more that 5 minutes early!

Was I ever late for work, yes one day I was on the way and a car drove into the side of my car, unfortunately that caused me to be late, was my money stopped for a month no.

Even if they were late due to the late running of a actual JOB interview that they had attended? You know - a proper interview rather than just an appointment with someone at the job centre? That has happened you know. Reckon that someone unavoidably detained like that deserves to go cold, hungry and risk being evicted from their homes because they had the nerve to go for a interview before signing on?

On what cold hearted planet are you from?

But very ok for the Job Centre and the WP to be over 1 hour late for the appointment they have booked with you.

Just to point out I have never been late for any JC or WP appointment.

This is true. One time in about a thousand meetings seems about fair, if there's actually been a car crash en route, or similar.

Now, do you think that that's what delayed most people being sanctioned?

It is likely to happen more than once in a thousand meetings but you are also right that it is proabally not the main reason why most people are late, but why should those who it was, be tarred with the same brush as those who it wasn't?

    Yes, of course.

Was that a serious question? In exactly the same way, if I interview someone for a job, they will likely be excluded for being late, but will just have to sit there patiently if a deal comes up when I was en-route to see them. It's one of the asymmetries of modern life, one that I've also had to accept when on the other side of the desk.

In other shocking modern practices, the desk junior gets sent for tea more often than the senior trader...

Inferring, perhaps? And you can't infer a person. Impugning, maybe?

And yes, I do know about the poster to whom I was referring, as he posts quite a bit about himself. The picture he paints is of someone who ought to be sanctioned.

I do hope that it's just an act, as the persona that he projects on here is of someone who will probably never hold down a decent job. I can only judge the persona, not the person, of course.

He shouldn't be sanctioned nor does he come across like he'd never hold down a job
You shouldn't be making character based attacks eg ad hominem

It's a serious question as in treating others as you want to be treated
