Good policing or just invasive?

  • You failed the attitude test.

Lets look at this from the police point of view.

They saw someone removing a satnav, and going through the glove box, they are unsure if you are the owner or not.

Keys mean nothing, most cars are now stolen by burglary, in which the keys are taken.

The very first words you say to him are defensive "What do you mean" sounds defensive, in reply to asking what you had in your hands.

They can't let you stay in the car, you may drive off, have you ever watched a police reality show, and wonder why they put people in the back seat of the police car to talk to them, It's to control them, you were not asked to do this, you got off lightly.

You don't like being told what to do, defensive again, attitude and mannerisms, looks suspicious to the police.

Muttered profanities, again, attitude, dislikes the police, what are you hiding.

After dealing with a defensive, rude, combative person, the police find everything in order, and let you on your way.

They sound like good officers, with the way you behaved and reacted, they could have made your life a lot harder.

They DO NOT deserve a complaint, they deserve an apology, from you.

    Ummmmmm....a copper by any chance......

I've not had much dealings with police...if im honest...

but i was pulled up once for having my fog lights on....and to be honest they are on a power trip.....

Come on now! I don't know if you're trying to give the impression that you're a cop and just a keyboard warrior, or if you're a cop and playing the innocent but firm angle.

I'm a former bouncer and I can wholly tell you that a woman on her own is far more likely to feel intimidated than a man on his own! It's just the fact of the matter. If you genuinely don't know that much then you're either not actually a cop, or you're a rookie at best!

There have been several times I've left my post to walk a lone woman to the train station or get her safe into a cab! The fact that she's being approached by police officers is really no different, especially if they come off with the all guns blazing accusatory attitude!

First of all, I'm not a police officer, and have never claimed to be.

Secondly you have taken my post in entirely the wrong context. Why should the poster be treated any differently by the police because they are female??

Most people on here would like you locked up and the key thrown away for such an heinous crime.

I think you've missed the point.

Why should people who aren't police be treated differently. Why should police bully people? I'm not saying they do, but there's fair evidence to suggest they probably do.

OK, perhaps a warrant is the wrong term for it. What I mean is, they have to suspect you've committed a crime. Sometimes police will stop people because they're targeting them, rather than genuinely believe you've done anything wrong. I'd like any police officer who uses this forum to tell me that they don't target groups of individuals, because I'd say he/she is a liar.

When I was 17, I worked in a certain filthy fast food outlet, we all know the one... double cheeseburger please... yeah, anyway, I had to work one very late night a week on Friday, usually finishing about 2am in the morning. To get home, I had to drive through the busy town centre, which was normally full of people on the !!!! and nightclub go'ers. I drove a Peugeot 106, which wasn't modified but fell into the category of the 'young persons' car.

Anyway, a few weeks after starting, I was pulled on one of my late night shifts (I'd only done maybe 2 or 3 late night shifts, so it was still a new experience). The policeman asked me what I was doing out so late at night. I was still in my uniform and I said, just been to work as you can see, thinking he'd take it in good humour. He did not. They asked me to step out of the car, they breathalysed me, they searched my vehicle damaging the plastic handle that makes the seat go forward. They routed around my vehicle for a good half an hour while I was sitting in the back of the police car, with a policewoman sitting in the front telling me "we get a lot of drug dealers and drink drivers round here". I probably did fail the attitude test myself, because I blew up a little bit sitting in the back of the police car. Did I look like a !!!!ing drug dealer? I was wearing a bloody skin-tight uniform, stinking of burger and fries.

Anyway, while I was sitting in the back of the police car, I watched another police officer pull a black Ford Ka and pull a similar stunt on this guy. I thought how odd... streams of Merc's, BMW's went past without being stopped and one Audi who flew past at well over the speed limit wasn't pulled yet, the next car to be pulled was a Ford Ka... hello targeting young people.

Anyway, they let me go and all that. I went home, did some research, learnt about the lines to say if I was pulled "Don't consent to searches", "Am I being detained or am I free to go". I was pulled another FIVE times on that route home, for no other reason than the police 'curiosity'. The closest I ever got to sitting in the back of the police car was standing outside of my own vehicle.

Hope that clears it up for you.

You were probably stopped because you and your car fitted the profile of the drink drivers and drug dealers that they were targeting. Do you think they would use this tactic if it didn't get results??

You say yourself that you probably failed the attitude test, and that alone is going to arouse suspicion. And that is what probably resulted in the very thorough search.

If you don't consent to a search, then that alone can be enough to arouse suspicion that you have something to hide. And that gives them the authority to carry out a search anyway.

The best policy is to be polite and cooperative. That way they will probably send you on your way in no time at all.

I read this all the time, don't the police have an attitude test?

Let's not forget, they are public servants... you & I pay their wages. I expect to be treated in a courteous & polite way, until (if) there's a reason for that to change.

I got stopped about 6 months ago & the 2 plods came walking up to the cab, I wound the window down & said "morning mate"...his reply was "It's officer to you"

    That's attitude!

I'm pretty sure they pay for their own wages aswell.... Tax NI and pension included:rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
There was an incident near me last week and the police were out in the streets en masse looking for the suspects. I was walking up to the pub to watch the England v Germany match and was stopped by a patrol car as they said I matched the suspects, (wearing a big coat and a hat must have matched most people on the streets that night).

The officers who stopped me asked for ID. I said I only had a £20 note and a front door key, as my Wife won't trust me with anything else when I go to the pub, not even my phone. They laughed and told me to carry on.

    They're not all bad.

its pretty good advice if your ever arrested stay shtum that way nothing can ever be taken down and used as evidence against you!.

By keeping 'shtum' you will probably just prolong the situation. It can be a case of cutting off your nose to spite yourself.

So you don't think they should have pulled you over for having your fog lights on then??

So you will be happy when a lorry ploughs into the back of your car because they didn't see your brake lights come on, because they were dazzled by your fog lights, will you??

So why did you quote my post where I asked why it should make a difference if someone was female.

There are bullies in all walks of life (including bouncers). But that doesn't mean that 'police are bullies' or even 'bouncers are bullies'.
