I thought the projector headlights used special bulbs like xenons not standard H7's etc?

I fitted Nightbreakers to my Honda and they were a big improvement over standard. That was with a 'normal' headlight setup, not projectors etc. No issues with the pattern or anything.

If the bulbs are seated correctly (and I know the OP has checked, but this still seems the most likely reason), then my guess would be that the light source in the Nightbreakers is in a slightly different position with regard to the reflector, and this is messing up the beam pattern. Can you do a side-by-side inspection of the bulbs together, to see if the coil is significantly further forward or backward on the Osrams?

    Nope.
You get projectors for both Halogen type bulbs and others for Xenon style.

I think it's to do with the projector lights. I've got a megane with projector lights and since I bought it I thought the dipped beam was awful. I tried all different extra brightness bulbs which made no improvement.

I mentioned the problem to my mechanic who changed the bulbs for cheapo standard H7's and the beam is now much better. He said it's something to do with the way these nightbreaker etc bulbs project the light.
  • Previous Nightbreakers work fine in my Corsa (2005) with projector headlights. Are they official Osram? Not off ebay by any chance?

Best bet is to contact Osram for advice (and triple check fitting)
  • Are you sure you have them seated correctly, because the second picture with your originals back in is wrong too.

The H7 will fit in any number of ways, but if that single tab isn't right where it should be you'll have nothing like the correct pattern.

These only fit in one way, and are definitely seated correctly as any other way around its not possible to do the clip up which holds them in.

The pattern in the second photo is how they've always been, and the car got through the latest MOT like this, what should the pattern be like?

    Also definetly official Osram bulbs

Projector headlights are notoriously dim. I put these Nightbrakers in my Audi A3 when I had it and the improvement was amazing. I can only see the issue with Axial's beam pattern being the bulbs themselves. The old ones were fine as far as beam pattern goes (just dim), so assuming they've been inserted correctly and are the right bulbs for the car, it has to be faulty bulbs.

In simple terms the pattern looks like a hockey stick with the kick up facing towards the nearside - The second picture looks more like blobs of light. Try it up against a wall and see what the pattern of the light looks like then, if they are blobs then they are in wrong.

    They should be like this:

The bulbs will actually fit in the headlight in any position, but there is only one right way. I'm forever having to put them right at mot time :)
