Flower delivery - would you say anything?

I have had some flowers delivered today for my birthday.

A great big box arrived with the smallest bunch of flowers in it I have ever seen. It looks like a bunch you would buy at a petrol station.

The flowers themselves are ok not dead or anything although some of the heads are bent over making them look tired. They look nothing in the vase.

I know I am going to be asked if they are nice. Do I lie?

I just hate the fact that the person that sent them to me does not have a lot of money and although I really appreciate the time and trouble they have gone to to send them to me, I hate the thought of them being ripped off.

I have thought about making a complaint to the company but I would hate the thought of it getting back to the sender.

What would you do?.

  • Rather than wait to be asked can you email or text with a photo and a "thank you for the lovely thought" message. That way the sender can decide if they are what they ordered.
  • Is it possible to go online, look at the company's website and see what the flowers ordered are supposed to look like? It's usually obviously what category of bouquet they are from the box. I sent some rose plants to my mother in law and they arrived half dead. I was very glad she told me so I could complain - and she was sent some more.

Yes I did think of that, only after I had already emailed to say thank you though.

I would normally ring to say thank you, took the cowards way out and emailed instead! But I know I will have to speak to them at some point.

I'd have a look at the company website and see if you can find the flowers that were ordered - if in the picture they look all perky and a decent bouquet, take a photo and send it to the company and say it it looks nothing like what you should have received.

I’d also add to them that you haven’t let the person who ordered them know as you didn’t want to hurt their feelings but you felt that they should be made aware that the flowers are not up to scratch and therefore an embarrassment to the company.

Usually interflora etc use local florists for the area they are for so will not appreciate said florists giving them a bad name.

Perhaps a "whoops, forgot the photo", then. I have to do that a lot!

    Yes I have done that.

They have sent what is listed but they do not look anywhere as good as in the picture.

The flowers on the spray chrysants are tiny and bent over, in the picture they are a lot bigger so they fill the vase out, my vase looks so sparse.
  • If I'd coughed up my hard-earned on flowers for someone, I'd definitely want to know if they were rubbish ones.

    Yes I might do that.

Hopefully it will put them off from sending me flowers again.

Yes so would, I but I think this person might be upset if I actually told them and feel they perhaps should have spent more money to get something nicer and I do not really want them to feel like that.

were the flowers delivered by a florist thats linked to interflora...and you will be able to tell as there should be some branding on what you received if they are.

If so you can phone the florist and ask them to confirm what was ordered because they should be supplying as described on the interflora website.

I once had a bouquet delivered that was interflora and it bore no resemblance to what was ordered,a phonecall to the helpline quickly ensured that a replacement arrived within the hour which was much more a described.

If the flowers have not been ordered via interflora but direct with a florist if you dont think they are up to much then theres no harm in phoning to say that you received the flowers but have been dissapointed with the quality.
The same goes for a company where the flowers have been ordered and sent through the post.

Its a difficult situation but in honesty if a florist doesnt know of your dissatifaction then it wont do anything to put it right...but at least if they know then they may want to rectify the flower offering!!

Either way... I guess what you have to focus on is that someone thought enough of you to send some flowers.
