Considering the 5.6 billion dollars they made last year I don't think they are 'trying', I think they are 'doing'.

People get annoyed about Paypal doing all they can to increase this profit whilst annoying others, but it's only like most businesses - they simply want to increase the profit for next year so that the top execs get more bonus (which I'd expect to be in the millions of dollars)

As an aside, one thing that irritates and amuses me at the same time is the amount of grumbles about Paypal trying to make a profit. Sellers, whether it be on Ebay or their own store or whatever often rely on being able to use Paypal to run their businesses. Yes, there are alternatives but Paypal is best known by consumers, easy to set up, and cheaper than a lot of other options especially for small traders who would struggle with a bank. This (minority) handful of sellers who want to make a profit and a living, need the like of eBay & Paypal to use as tools to achieve that and then think it's unfair for Paypal & eBay to take a cut and make a profit!

They certainly do get a very nice cut.

Ebay which own PayPal take 10% plus insertion fees etc.

PayPal take 4%, so they are doing great and making billions. While I personally have no problem with that, I do understand why some sellers trying to make a living and others trying to raise a bit of extra funds might feel fleeced.

More so now Ebay also take 10% of the postage costs as well, and say in the T&Cs that you are not allowed to inflate postage costs to include the fee.
  • I just switched PAD off on mine, tried it for a month, not keen.

Please tell us a little more, what did you not like?

Did anything go wrong/any problems you encountered with PAD?

  • I am resurrecting this thread because I have an issue with PAD.

Specifically, I have this as my default payment method on Ebay. However, over the last 48 hours I have been having problems.
When I click on pay after deliver 14 days a message comes up reading "there is a problem with your bank account [account details] please use an alternative payment method" (e.g. debit card).

So, I contacted PayPal and they assured me that the PAD is still in place, so why does this message come up? It means I can't use PAD and have to make an instant payment from the SAME bank account.

Any ideas. Ebay and PayPal can't resolve this. They say there is no problem with my account. Might my bank be involved? (no problems there either). Confused and annoyed.

If anybody can shed any light on this I'd be grateful. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem over the last couple of weeks. I have even bought an item on ebay today from a seller I used recently and PAD worked then, why not now???
  • Yep, I too have tried to purchase an item from a seller I have used PAD with previously - PayPal have not been particularly helpful in resolving this matter. My feeling is that it something to do with the site update... I'm really annoyed. Don't know how to resolve this! Frustrating!
  • Logged onto ebay using "firefox" instead of IE and made a purchase of £2.29 & PAD worked. Then tried another for £7.44 PAD declined. so got a 50% success rate this time. Got to buy some wiper blades & a new battery for car so will try tomorrow to see what happens.
  • This has been happening to me as well.

I did two PAD transactions in August, and they worked fine.

But the last two times I tried it said they couldn't do the transaction at this time, and I should use an alternative funding source.

So I paid from my PayPal balance, and then had to manually transfer the funds from my bank account.
