Hi, Hope this on the correct part of the website!
Home is undergoing a complete refurbishment.
Found a guy that installs home networking and TV.
He has installed CAT6 point to each room with twin satellite connection and a aerial for free view. (See image below) All connections meet at the bottom of the stairs.
I will be having Sky coming on a weekday to install TV, Fibre and Telephone.
Theres a twin satellite cable and an aerial cable going to the roof. Im assuming this is for the dish to be installed?
My question is this:
If the dish is installed by Sky (standard dish) how will all the rooms receive satellite signal?
Does there need to be a dish for Sky and a separate aerial element for the free view?
Does there need to be a distribution unit under the stairs so that all rooms receive signal?
If there's anything I have missed out, please let me know!
Help will be appreciated...:D

An Octo LNB will only provide eight leads from the dish, but each Sky+ decoder requires two leads to fully function as a recorder.
Thanks for replying.
I hired this installer so that they can provide connection points to all rooms so that I can connect once I move in. Moving in February.
Their job was not to install Sky for me. Also I made the order for Sky and this Sky subscription is at a good price.
And also a distribution system has not been installed. At the moment its just Sky satellite cables coming under the stairs.Save money, get the things you want! Blow it all, regret it!0 -

Sky and Freeview require totally separate receiving equipment. Sky needs a decoder plus dish and Freeview must have a decoder connected to an aerial.uddin_1995 wrote: »Their job was not to install Sky for me. Also I made the order for Sky and this Sky subscription is FREE for 12 months!
Why is Sky providing everything free?0 -

Your subscription to Sky is separate from the installation, which should have been done by your independent.

Thanks again
Installation is not finished forgot to mention. The network switch for the CAT6 home network still needs to be connected. I understand that the subscription is separate. However I did not understand how the Sky TV install works.
What would you suggest I say to my installer? To install dish and aerial including the distribution system?Save money, get the things you want! Blow it all, regret it!0 -
It depends on how it is wired. You may need a patch panel to link the dish feed to the room you want it in.
This will allow the receiver to work, but not supports multiple receivers (if that is what you thought).0 -

Have a look at the image below. All cabling have been left like this. From here a twin satellite and aerial cable for freeview go to all rooms in the house. 1 pair of satellite cable for Sky and 1 aerial cable goes outside to the roof, I was assuming this was for the dish. I assumed the dish would send signals to a distribution unit where it will be amplified and distribute signals to each wall plate for me to connect a sky box or freeview to each room.

You cannot split signals from your dish, you need two feeds per Sky + box. Sky won't fit an Octo LNB unless you are taking 4 boxes.
It won't be Sky coming to fit your telephone line it will be BT Openreach. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

You still haven't said how it is that you are getting free Sky for a year?0 -

Just spoke to him on the phone. He has said to tell Sky to install their dish at the point he provided on the roof with a quad LNB. He will then install his distribution unit under the staircase which will allow me to watch Sky in all rooms.
Also Sky was free part of a promotion.Save money, get the things you want! Blow it all, regret it!0 -

I think you need to double check exactly what you will be paying Sky. The best deal I've seen for new customers is a half price basic subscription (with no discount for movies or sport) for six months.0
