Daily Mags - what is happening?

At the risk of sounding like a show off... there's a work around for that too

It involves setting up a sync account, and then using the same browser or compatible browser on each device.
I use firefox on the PC and laptop and Mercury on the iPod, all synced.

Thanks. This is all getting a bit too clever for me!

I'll just have to accept that direct links have been removed for no reason at all (or one that has not been given anywhere) and do the best I can.

It just seems such a shame to go backwards like this.

Rugster, I feel your pain mate. You don't want to drive us mad, you only want your answers - I get that

I can tell you one person the new system has helped - yours truly. I haven't had time to enter mag dailies for ages. But as I've come across them on the main board, I've entered some of them once, and also, it made me consider saving them to do regularly. I haven't done that yet, but at least it prompted me. That's the point. When they're on the main board, it's a prompt.

Fing is, it’s easy to think it was all fine before, but actually I doubt it, because otherwise this wouldn’t have blown up. I hope nobody believes that anyone woke up a few days ago and thought, “Today is a quiet day, I think I’ll see what trouble I can cause on the comps board.”

I think this is one of those wait and see things. We’ve all said what we needed to say. We don’t have to agree in order to value each other’s input. Now we should give MSE Towers a chance to sift through it, devise their next ‘cunning plan’ and see where they take it. Might take a while, because life is like that. But I’ve found them to be seriously good at the listening thing, and also at the innovative and helpful thing too. Especially considering we don’t even pay anything. (Sshhhhh! Don’t remind them of that one, Justin Case).

It’s a bit of a pain to have to adjust to what might be an interim system, but it’s just comping. There are lots of changes in life that feel outside of our control. Patronising me, but if the Mag Dailies are the only one of those getting to you then, believe me, I would swap places with you in a heartbeat

I get what you're saying, but I think you might have missed rug's point

We're all happy to give the comps a try on the main board, absolutely. Can be reviewed in January if needed.

BUT there was no need for the way the comps are posted on the mags thread to change. This is a second, separate change to having the comps posted on the main board. The mags thread previously linked straight to the mags webpages, it no longer does.

Yes, you can bookmark the webpages, but then you don't get the answers, which were previously provided on the thread, and are now ONLY available on the individual threads. Clicking through to these takes literally twice as long. Why can't the answers and direct links be in both the individual threads and the mags thread?

I don't have time to be going through all the individual threads, so I'm giving up on the mag dailies unless that aspect is changed back. More chance for everyone else to win :rotfl:

Blu, thanks for the sympathy. I'm glad that the new system is helping you, but your narrative illustrates my point in a nutshell.

I totally understand why people want the mags on the main board - I'm sure that'show I got started on them too.

My issue is with linking from the list in the first few posts of the mags thread back to the threads on the main board instead of direct to the mags as was done on CPs thread. This has no connection whatsoever with whether the comps are also listed on the main board or not, it just seems to be an unforeseen consequence that is helping nobody and hindering many. That is what I am struggling to understand.

No, not really, because you still need to click through to the main board thread to get the link to the comp.

It needs to be returned to the brilliant way devised and mainatined by Cornish Pasty. Direct links in a list with the answer next to them.

Just updated my post as you were posting To add that it is the missing direct links as well as the missing answers that's the issue.

Is there a particular reason the direct links can't go on the thread as well? I think I must be genuinely missing something to not grasp the reason for that change. I know it's not what's done on the dailies thread, but the mags thread is there for a completely different reason.

Having the answers posted would be helpful - it would then be possible to open the thread (with the answers), and the webpages (from favourites), and refer across to check answers. It would still be less efficient than the previous system, but more efficient than not having answers or links.

Also just to say that I realise none of this is a life or death situation, and although a minor irritation, I can DEFINITELY live with missing out on a hundred or so comps a month (more time for other things!). And also I appreciate those that are making an effort to resolve things. :T

yes, I understand what you're saying rugmaker
but the ruling for the time being is that we link them to the main board,
if jambo's links go straight to the main comp without the link to the main board way I see it it seems a waste of time & effort posting them on the main board because surely then peeps would have to visit the mag daily thread only,
which caused the upset in the first place
unless i'm missing something,
