Blue badge and car windscreen covers

With the very cold weather on its way my wife bought me a car windscreen cover to try and stop the windscreen from freezing over, and meaning I have to spend 20 -30 minutes, in pain, trying to de-ice the windscreen.

One obvious problem has raised its head.

With the windscreen cover on you cannot see my BB and I must display it to park in the disabled bay on the street.

So, I'm looking for ideas to get around this problem.

I've been told that the badge MUST be displayed in the front of the car as my initial idea was to display it on the parcel shelf in the back window.

The annoying thing is, if the dashboard cannot be seen because of ice/snow then a ticket cannot be issued even if the badge is not displayed.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Cut a hole in the cover in the appropriate place.

Get a car with a heated screen. Sorted.

Does it not take just as long to clear the frost/ice/condensation off the cover rather than the screen?

My neighbour uses one. Im long gone before he has finished messing with it.

you really don't need to spend that amount of time defrosting your car, just turn it on about ten/15 minutes before you leave, lock it and leave it, it will be nice and warm with a clean windscreen when you get back. And as above, cut a hole in the appropriate place so it shows through.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

This is not legal to do on the public highway.

You pull off the cover, shake it vigourously, stick it in a bag, and throw it in the boot.

    - ask [in writing & recorded] the issuer - your local authority for written guidance !
    - then do nothing till you hear
    - if for any reason you are sanctioned for BB display

Appeal and send in the evidence.

  • its rare for a windscreen to freeze while parked for a couple of hours during the day, these covers are designed to be used overnight...problem solved(if ever there was one)

My wife has a hole cut in hers so you can see her blue badge, she has cut the hole in the bottom left corner so if that area of the screen is frozen it doesn't effect her visibility.

That is the worst thing you can do to a car, a car needs to be driven when started not just parked up.

Takes me a few minutes to de-ice mine i use water put in 4 pint milk bottles the night before, been doing this since i could drive, many years.
