Agree Ignore until they put up or shut up.
They have no engineers report or they would have sent a copy.
If you receive stamped court papers, then come back quickly.
    Be happy...;)
  • Real story is probably more like:

Person takes car to garage, garage advises that it could be the cylinder head but they won't know till they take the engine apart to check - and quotes for new / refurbed part. Customer finds yours online (?) and decides it's cheaper than the garage quoted and order it.
Garage find that it isn't the cylinder head and advise the customer to return it. They return it with a duff excuse expecting you to just refund without testing... Then tells garage to refuse delivery when you send it back.

Garage fixes car and customer then thinks you might be a soft touch and tries to get some Christmas money out of you. Tell them to sling it.

i hadn't thought of that!!!!! you could be right there

    Thank you
  • give the garage a call and see what work was carried out and how much it cost....
  • Hi

we could give the garage a call but it was the garage that has said there was a fault with the head in the first place, if it was something they did to the car ie. not fitting the head correctly and are trying to pass the buck onto us then i can't see them being very helpful. they dfid afterall refuse delivery, wether this was the garages or the customers decision we dont know

    Thank you

I would reply back stating the cylinder returned to yourself was found to have no faults. Nothing wrong with the head.

Head returned but rejected so you refunded as a gesture of goodwill.

Head resold and works with no issues.

The garage either diagnosed the fault incorrrectly or the fault lay in possibly the lower engine block or the head gasket.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • Hi

    thanks for your replies

i too think the fault lay in the lower engine block as £2800 for taking a head off twice is an extortionate amount even with 2 lots of parts being purchased!!!!

the car is a fiat 2.0 20v not a bloody porsche

it was also not done by a main dealer!!!

    Thank you

Don't get in touch with the garage, no need to get involved and get into any flap about this unless the customer tries to sue. Engaging will only waste your time and energy and may even be used as (weak) evidence of culpability. Just get a clear timeline with events, amounts, and any supporting literature into a file and sick it on the shelf. If you get a small claims claim in 6 months you have everything ready for the courts and aren't hunting around. By showing you've got a very clear and organised evidence to support your side you will make the court view you in a better light.

If they do issue a claim I would say your counter claim has a very good chance of success and the initial claim would fail.
    See it as an opportunity.
    Be happy...;)

I remember years ago doing the head in my father's 2.5 Triumph was so chuffed with myself as I was quite young at the time and he had knackered it so much that the block was cracked too.....:(
