Spraying my car roof a different colour

I rather like the black roof silver body combination:
But as most have said you'll need to inform your insurance company. It probably won't change the premium but it could give them wriggle room if you don't tell them and have to make a claim later on (undisclosed modification).
There are always exceptions - on that car, with that style of roof I have to say that the black looks good.
Although we have no idea what make or model the OP has.0 -
hi thanks for the replies, i spoke to Hastings and they arn't bothered, its been noted but has cost nothing, not even an amendment charge. The garage have the car roof prepped and i gave them the go ahead, so i could get it back in a few hours. The car is a kia R!o, silver with a lot of black already (mirrors, window trim, grill) so it should look ok.0

According to insurance companies, a modification is classed to any alteration to the vehicle's factory specification after it has left the factory.0

Hands up anyone who was expecting the car to be a Kia Rio?!0

TBH I don't find that appealing. there also a mismatch in the line up, look at the rear window rubber and look at the height of the black meeting the silver in the pillar theres a few mill off so doesn't carry the body line correctly it makes it have a step in the line looking at the car side on.0 -
A resprayed silver roof will have 10 more years shelf life. By which time you'll probably be onto a different car. It makes no sense to "future proof" the paint. Also black is actually a less forgiving colour because every spec of dust is visible on it.
If you just want the cosmetic improvement go for it. But the other reasons you cited are invalid. Don't forget resale value will be affected so too your list of potential buyers after a non oem paint job0 -

For someone with such lazy attitude to spelling. You are very finicky about minor issues. I think the sprayer fid have a long and hard look at this and decided to line up the paintaaccordingto tthebody contours rather than where the rubber ggrommet ends0 -

A car that is Anti-theft resistant, in that no self respecting joy rider would EVER be interested and no international parts smuggling racket would waste their time.
I'm not saying they are !!!!, but I once went in one as a passenger, and my assumptions proved to be better than reality. :eek:0 -

It's a stock paint scheme for the MK2 MR2, not aftermarket work (Sonic Shadow IIRC).
The line from the window does follow the body line as there's a 'seam line' where the black paint ends.0
