Hi, i have some damage on my roof, and i was going to spray my roof black instead of silver when its repaired, would this class as a modification on the insurance? and would it be likely to add a lot to my insurance?

Not a modd as doesnt alter performance. But insurance is slippery and might not see it that way. Check with them first.0

Agreed, check with insurance first.
A vinyl can be a lot easier than painting.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Why are you not getting the roof repaired/resprayed properly so as to not see any damage/imperfections?
I wouldn't want a car with 'camouflaged' roof.0 -
Hi, sry the roof is been repaired and cost wise its the same for me to have resprayed the original silver or black. i'd like to take black, i had been told the insurance companies aren't too bothered about a little colour but im not sure. i'm going to ring hastings tomorrow0

The usual wording "makes the car more attractive to thieves" is the insurers' usual catch-all clause to load the premium. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

As far as I am aware, a modification (from an insurer's point of view) is anything which alters the level of risk. This will include performance mods, but also anything that makes the car more likely to be damaged or stolen, or which increases the value that they might have to pay out on. A high-end custom paint job may fall into this category, but I doubt if a black roof would. However, it's easy to ask their opinion and, if you do it, inform them and keep a record. 'Just in case', as always. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

If nothing else they will probably charge you for 'making an alteration to the details on the policy' once you tell them.0

alteration to color, needs to be declared you would also need to alter the color section on your V5C from silver to black/silver via the DVLA if you want to go down the rout of doing everything right.
its an alteration to manufacturers specification so should tell insurance.
black and silver doesn't go with eachother in reality sounds ok in the mind in theory but when its done it looks odd, I say this as a person who has fully re sprayed about 5 cars in the past aswell as many repairs, black is the most horrid base coat to apply as it will show any panel imperfection you have including ripples and waves hail dents (even of you cant see them now you will with black)from poor fill jobs and prep work and panel warping from heat that other colors tend to hide well.
I was looking at a merc amg with black roof white body, I saw all the scratches in the roof from polishing with a buffer and mini dents from hail stones and thought all that money and it looks tatty on the roof.0 -
I rather like the black roof silver body combination:
But as most have said you'll need to inform your insurance company. It probably won't change the premium but it could give them wriggle room if you don't tell them and have to make a claim later on (undisclosed modification).0
