4 months to plan a wedding....

Hi All,
I was looking for a 'cheap wedding hint' type thread, but I cannot find one - If there is one could someone please point me in the right direction?
I am helping a close friend of mine plan her wedding, but due to reasons I am not prepared to disclose on here the wedding must take place within the next 5 months. They are in talks with a venue and church etc however I am trying to arrange the other things. I will be calling in as many favours as possible, however wondered if anyone had any tips/suggestions that might help me. I am hoping the day can be amazing, without breaking the bank!
I helped to plan a wedding a few years ago, with much more time, and made the invites so I will probably be designing and making them, but I am a but stuck as to where to start with EVERYTHING else.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions  and sorry if this is the wrong place/already elsewhere.

What kind of wedding are they wanting? Are they wanting small and intimate or a large affair?
For my wedding the favours were chocolate bars which doubled as place settings we just bought a load of chocolate bars and did the wrappers at home on the printer which matched the invites.0 -
She's preggers isn't she?0

We did a lot of ours by hand and using locations such as a local village hall for the reception.
We also had a mobile fish and chip van for the food which did not cost us that much, but we did have to try them beforehand.
We made our own snacks and as it was just before christmas - homemade mince pies etc went down a treat.
The cakes again we made at home so we kept those costs down.
For the alcohol we invited a local pub to come and setup a cash bar which the guests knew of in advance plus we bought a lot of fizzy wine when it was 25% off if you bought 6 or more bottles in a local supermarket. That coupled with it being half price to begin with meant we had much more than we could have afforded originally.
Next we bought cheap vases and some nice glass flowers from Dunn Elm to act as table decorations.
All of those cost us, including the wedding itself at a local registry office under £2500.0 -

I think it will be mid sized - all the family but not all 'friends' IYKWIM. I think I will need to investigate favours, maybe a sweet that means something to them, and their theme is going to be lace and ribbon, so would be quite easy to make favours including that - thanks :beer:She's preggers isn't she?
Nope she isnt0 -
We had the ceremony fairly late at 2:00 pm and didn't have a formal sit down meal, just afternoon tea. Guests contributed the sandwiches and cakes themselves. It was very MSE.
It worked for us, but it might not work for everybody.0 -

That all sounds fab - I am not too sure fish and chips is the thing for them, but fantastic ideas with them, and the cash bar from the pub!
I will be keeping my eyes open for cheap bubbily deals
we could always change the labels
I think they want their tables decorated with the theme of travel, as they have been travelling and wanted each table to represent somewhere they have been - I need to figure out how best to do this
thanks again0 -
We planned our wedding in 4 months (the place I had always said I would get married in was closing), it all depends to what scale she wants to how easy it'll be.
We had a hog roast for the meal.
My Aunt made my birthday cake as our present.
My dress came from ebay and my friend did the alterations.
Our table centres were wooden flowers that doubled up as the favours, plus went to our local cash and carry and bought loads of sweets and made up a sweetie buffet which also acted as favours too. Which everyone loved.
We did our own disco as hubby made up his own system and bought some second hand lights, was quite easy to make up some play lists on the computer.
Try local village halls, then you can make your own bar up, ask everyone to bring a bottle.Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.0 -
Either she's pregnant or his visa's about to expire.
Of course a wedding can be planned in four months. I did mine in less than two on account of the OH's looming court case. We thought it best to get it out of the way before his 10 year stretch."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
