Also received the email and spoken to SP who confirm my DD will increase to £53 a rise of £6. At present I am locked out of their website, after 8 years it did not like my password.
I have done the comparison thing and find I can save £111, but I am pretty sure there is a get out penalty of £50(can someone confirm, please?), so we would be down to a saving of £60. Edf and Eon get very bad reviews, so I wonder if it is worth switching to save £1 a week from a company that hasn't given bad service.
I believe I read somewhere that you can't switch after the end of your contract, looks as though you can't avoid paying any get out fee.
No matter how much they try to simplify the fuel packages, they have just enough to sow confusion, do we really know what we are letting ourselves in for?
Oh well, time to sit on the phone for half an hour and try to reset my password.
There are no penalties. You can switch, without penalty, when you want to. Pls look at the below link for SP Jan14 T&Cs for clarification.

When you look at the photo, at the top, I think you'll agree that the nice smiley lady is NOT on the phone talking to SP about her new tariff options....or resetting her password!0 -
jayne - Don't just look at dual fuel and using the same company for gas and electricity.
I'm going with npower for electricity - fixed till april 2015
I've decided to take a risk and go with Daligas - fixed for a year. The gas is actually cheaper than the SP jan14 prices.
I went via this -http://www.energylinx.co.uk/energy/cashback/
£17 cashback per fuel and the cashback is offered for both providers.
After factoring in the cashback I'll actually be paying less, over the next year, for both fuels than the current SP Jan 14 tariff.
Also - both have no early exit penalties.
Thanks Thommy - have looked into this and the Daligas is indeed a cheaper option than I am currently paying. Npower is not available to me but first:utility may be my best bet if I can convince myself their customer service isn't as bad as some make out.
Thanks for the tip :T0 -

How strange, I got through to SP and was told 'yes there is a cancellation fee'!
Your link clearly state's the opposite!
It really is a minefield.
I think tomorrow we will sit down and look at it with fresh eyes.
Many thanks for taking the time to help us!0 -
I have started the switching process through EnergyLynx - from Scottish Power (Online Fixed Price Energy January 2014 - no standing charge) dual fuel to Daligas for gas and first:utility (gulp!) for electricity.
My calculations work out a saving of approximately £136 over the next year if I switch as opposed to sticking with Scottish Power's Online Fixed Price Energy February 2015 Offer (this calculation includes discounts and cashback).
Let's see how smoothly it goes.........0 -
Thought I would update on my switch........
It has gone smoothly so far - switched from SP Dual Fuel to Daligas for Gas and First:Utility for Electric.
Was paying £74/month to SP
Now paying £38/month to Daligas and £30/month to First:Utility
So I am saving approx. £6/month by switching and get £34 cashback for switching via EnergyLinx.
No problem with the switch - all seemed to go well with no loss of service (as you would expect).
All in all I would have to recommend both Daligas and First:Electric as well as EnergyLinx for their switching service.0 -

You are saving £6 a month on your Direct Debit payments, but have you checked that it is £6 based on consumption?0 -

My figures are based on my consumption (in KwH) over the last year - I track this every year so I can get a (fairly) accurate idea of how much it is going to cost me with any given supplier.
There's bound to be a few inaccuracies given that consumption varies from year to year, but I am happy with the results I've got.
BTW, the £6 savings is based on the SP fixed price energy Jan 2014 prices so in effect I have saved more given their latest prices have an increased cost per KwH for both Gas and Electricity.0
