Scottish power end of fix to Jan 14

Hi
I am guessing that there are other people who receive an email today asking them to take action over getting to the end of their fixed energy.

What are you going to do?

If I read it right, I would now be charged 34.25p per day for gas and the same for electricity as a new standing charge. This works out at £250 pa.

As a lower energy user, this is what I paid for the 5 months May - September this year. This is a massive cost increase that will not go down no matter how much I try to cut energy use.

So I am just curious what other people will be doing?

Popping to a comparison site and looking around for what other deals are available (including checking for having each fuel with a separate supplier). (£50 per month over summer is not particularly low, btw.)

No - you are quite right. It's worse than I thought. I don't pay £50 per month, it's about £50 per quarter in the summer!

I've just been looking at comparisons and everything is more expensive than I am on at the moment.

I just need to decide whether long fix or short fix I guess.

Or whether to move to somewhere warmer (and then worry about air con costs!)

Yes, unfortunately the ban on two-tier tariffs has resulted in massive increases (I face a 70% rise this year for the same usage.) Make sure you are prepared to pay by direct debit - npower still have decent deals for electricity. For gas Ebico or, again, npower may be suitable. Or you can resign to having to pay for the heating and use it (again, npower may still have a fixed tariff in your region with £40 standing charge after direct debit discount of £52 taken off - this may or may not work out depending on just how much gas you use over winter.)

If you are currently on a closing cheap fix, then yes of course all current fixes will be more expensive.
Long or short fix, no one knows which will prove the winner. What matters is what rate you fix at.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I've had this email too. I've done a comparison and First Utility compares quite well, saving £225 per year on the amount I will be paying after the SP fix ends. I've looked on Quidco, however, and the cashback rate says £50 for dual fuel fixes, but there is also an option which says 'iSave Fixed v12 June 2015' (the one I was looking at) and a cashback rate of £25. I'm not sure which one is right, although I suppose any cashback is better than nothing?

You've done better than me then! Best I can find is about £5pm cheaper than the next fix Scottish Power offered me, and both of which are obviously more expensive that now. :(

Jayne if you go onto Quidco they have the plan specifically listed. I've now checked with them and the cashback is £50 for dual fuel.
