Esate Living, is it normal for cars to park...

  • On my estate everybody has 1 space, and a garage big enough for a car, then there is the odd visitor space. Its newbuild, it said in the contract that nobody is to park on the estate roads. Once the roads get adopted by the council, ill badger them for double yellow lines along the rd.
  • It definitely makes one feel un-neighbourly and childish :o We've even contemplated buying a couple of old bangers, waiting till said neighbour moves a van (or two ;)) and parking them in *his* space(s) :D:p

  • I would also park my car just under a car's length from the one in front/behind to maximise the road space I hog. If you have two cars, you can take up tons of space like this. 'Ave it:D

I don't drive yet have a dropped kerb. Neighbours do occasionally park in front of my house and they usually move as soon as practicable. I even had a neighbour apologise to which my reply was "I bought the house, not the road"
Cars are a fact of 21st century life, and it is one we will all have to learn to live with. There are far worse things to get upset about IMO
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

It's illegal to park in front of a dropped kerb.

Try living in a city in a row of terraced houses with no off street parking - you never get to park outside of your own house! You just get used to seeing someone elses car out of the window!

    Modern day living I'm afraid.

I know a couple who live in a lovely quiet cul de sac. New neighbours have moved in and they own a car parts delivery franchise so they have 3 (sometimes 4) trucks ( bigger than transits) that use up all the parking in the cul de sac.

One of the trucks is parked on the owners driveway but as its so big it extends close to their neighbour's window and blocks the light out. The neighbour is an old lady so doesn't complain.

When I visit it now feels like an industrial estate. Shame for the people who've experienced a nicer setting in the past.

Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say. :)

This is one thing I hate about many new-build estates now. Cramming in 4-bed town-houses which are often 2-car households, and giving them one designated parking bay each.

    Responding to provocation isn't ignorant; it's self-defence :D
