Esate Living, is it normal for cars to park...

on the road outside your house?

Seems as we are the end terrace on a large(ish) estate that cars seem to think they can park outside our house and its just a bit frustrating at times. (More so my partner getting past with buggy)

Anyone else live on an estate and had any similar experiences?

Provided a car is taxed, MOT'd & insured and isn't. Committing g any parking offences, a car can fe parked anywhere.

None of us have the right to claim the road space outside our houses as our own.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Very true.

I love where we live and maybe it a courtesy issue.

Are these cars parked up on the pavement ? Or across your drive?

If not , how do they affect a buggy?

What is the parking situation like in the estate?

People don't 'seem to think' they can park outside your house, in my experience it is absolutely normal to park wherever you can find space and this is virtually never directly outside the owner's own house. Parking spaces are at a premium and anywhere legal is fair game IMO.

When I first read it I wasn't sure if the op was serious ?:D
  • I think all cars on the estate use the pavement, we have a garage around the back of our property so never park out the front.

Its just frustrating to open your front door and have one possibly two cars parked directly outside?

My question was, is this normal on estates, having never lived on one before?

I'd say it is normal in any place where there is sufficient density of houses and not much off street parking.

I'm not sure why you mention estates particularly as in every town and city I have lived in it is absolutely normal to park where you can. ie. anywhere.

out of interest, are you not used to living in densely populated areas?

Not really. This is our first experience of cars parking directly outside the property. I fully understand sometimes it can't be avoided but its the same 2 or 3 cars, daily.

This is something def being considered, would be gutted though if the car got a knock or dent though...

In which case it is presumably your neighbours? Do they have a drive or garage?

I think the best advice is to try and get over it They are not actually doing any harm (not on curb etc) and there are bigger things to worry about in life eg. Lack of sleep if you have a little baby in that buggy you were talking about :D

Their drivers have probably realised that there is always a space available in front of your house so make that their number one target. If they didn't park there, someone else would.
