So, I'll be aiming to make 500 items before buying anything else to add to the stash. The majority of these will be cards but there will also be some knitting and sewing projects along with way.
Crafting can become an addictive hobby, can't it? If I mention that my craft room is 15' x 11' then you can begin to appreciate the scale of the problem!!!
Anyway, I had my LBM recently and decided that the time had come to face up to this. Pleased to say that I haven't watched that well-known tv craft channel for 5 weeks nowHowever, must confess to having bought a few bits and pieces from online craft stores recently, purely to complete projects in progress, of course
My papercrafting stuff is currently being downsized to no more than will fit into an Ikea Malm 3 drawer unit - eeeeks!!! This really makes you focus on what is to be kept.
There's also a substantial quantity of yarn stored in the roof space (but that's another story) and this is also being sorted through. Then, there's the fabric and patterns stash, again being sorted through. (Surplus items are in the process of being cleared via auction and sales sites, or donated to local community craft groups and charity crafters, depending on what it is.) Fabric, yarn and patterns are initially being restricted to what will fit into 2 x 900cm wide wardrobes (with lots of shelves, of course!) but the aim is to gradually reduce this to what will fit into 1 of the wardrobes as items are made and the stash reduced, and then finally re-home these wardrobes when the stash is down to what will fit into another chest of drawers.
Will report back each week to share my progress.
Happy crafting, and good luck with your own stash-busting challenges.
Welcome Silverbird - wow I'm getting the shakes from just thinking about reducing my craft stash - yet alone as drastically as you are planning - good luck and good to have you on board xxxMortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
craftingmad fab reindeer food.
I aspire to the concept of a stash bust however having joined a Facebook group to sell stash, I am now the proud owner of a pre-loved bigshot and hunting dies as we speak. I did sell a couple of items but alas have bought far more. Good luck folks :rotfl:
Thank you xx
I love my BigShot and warn you buying the dies for it very addictive - I can recommend www.cuttingedgecrafts.co.uk. They don't charge any postage on whatever sized order either and are one of the most reasonable priced stores as well xxx
Obviously I will not be looking at the moment.
Please feel free to post your creations when you make them xxMortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -

Hi crafting mad and all (waves)
Please can I join your challenge. I'd like to aim for 500 please if I don't OH is going to have a turn.
I have a craft room as kids have moved onwards and upwards. It's just me and OH at home. I have all my stash in one room (tongue in cheek) , have started to spill over into another room, where the computer is. My silhouette cameo attached to that so need card by it and vinyl and all bits of craft ( rolls eyes)
The problem is when I make things now my room is to cluttered and there's no where to store it lol
I make cards but also make lots of other things, would love to sew, knit and crochet but am struggling. Knitting took me ages to cast on, talking about a week of many attempts
At the moment I have made two Xmas cards but need to crack on..
Sorry about the long post but love this forum just keep forgetting to click on the crafting bitChallenge 2018 - Learn by heart the Book by Wayne Morgan on Amazon - Betfair Football Trading as it helps to supplement my small income :beer:0 -
Hi Susan42 - welcome - you are among friends here and we all share your love of paper, fabric, yarn etc xx
You sound just like me - I have my craft room but things slowly start migrating to other rooms in the house and my hubby is not amused
Good luck with your journey - enjoy the crafting and keep posting xxMortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
I really need to join in although I've been very good this year and only brought a few craft things as I'm desperate for space and have been decluttering. This Christmas I've gone back to some WIP just to use up the bits and make more space but I've actually really enjoyed finishing old projects. I saw on a decluttering site something that struck a cord with me, the lady was saying she came to the realisation that she wasn't a scrapbooker, instead she was someone who loved scrapbook things and buying them with intention to make things she never got around to doing. She bravely gave all her craft stuff away!
My best friend and I have a long running joke about proving how much we care for each other by giving a sheet of hoarded much loved vellum or using the last purple spotted button we had been saving for something special (but never finding that something special!).
If anyone has things they don't want or to spare I posted then a hospital I go to would love some bits, they have a little craft room for patients to go to or they bring craft stuff to you in bed. It really kept me sane and gave me something to look forward to during long stays https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4761566Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

I too have stash all over the house, the side of my chair is filled with cross stitch items, my fireplace has 4 boxes of threads currently living on it, the dining room table has my sewing machine on as I am in the middle of making a window quilt and I have a large storage box in my room that is filled with bits and pieces.......
Am I the only one that saves ribbon, voile etc from any gifts.....I have even taken the bits of ribbon off the Christmas crackers to use for 'something'?0 -

You are not alone - I do that too - even though I have 3 shelves full of ribbon

Hi vikki-louise - come join in and declutter away. I agree that there is something very enjoyable and satisfying about finishing old projects
Brilliant idea about donating to hospitals - I am sure there will be some bits and bobs I will find along the way which I could donateMortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
Hi all,
Well I managed to make some more things last night.
7 cards (all made from stash in my scrap box)
3 Friendship Teabags (again made using items from my scrapbox)
So that's another 10 for my made list taking me slightly closer to my 500 target - I wonder if I can get 500 things made before Christmas so that I can buy from the Jan sales?Hopefully by that time I will be a reformed character
Not managed to post on blog yet but hopefully will be able to take photos and post later xMortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020
