The point is that one of the kids have seen it, it shouldn't have been left in that position. If you were in the Doctor's you'd probably have a sneak peek at your records. OP is upset that school suspects dyslexia and hasn't been informed. Schools are desperate to cover dyslexia because of the funding implications and they have a legal duty to help and respond. Anyhoo It's past my bedtime but I will reply tomorrow!

I would read my records quite openly, given a chance. What I wouldn't do is read everybody else's and then go gossiping about them!

Wow, you really do live up to your username don't you? FYI I don't care what 'complimentary language'(:rotfl:) would be used about me. Oooh, not my card! Don't mark my card:eek: I'm perfectly capable of bringing up my child thank you, as I reiterate as you seem to be struggling to comprehend. My child did not go snooping, her friend found the notes and told her about them.

TBF, that's what your daughter told you.

She seems to have repeated things in surprising detail for someone who's only heard about them second hand through another 9 year old.

My daughter has an irritatingly accurate memory for detail which definitely gets me into trouble when I forget things!

Ok, I interrogated the tiny human on our walk to school.

It appears these notes were lying on the gym hall floor.

She didn't read them, so I totally agree I'm getting third hand info from a 9 year old.

I do intend to have a word with the head (whether this marks my card or not)
I do not intend to name the teacher to him unless asked, I'm not interested in teachers being disciplined. I only want to know what was actually written and have his assurance that staff will be more diligent in future.

    Morning!
No Head worth the job will "mark your card" for being concerned about your child. They will probably be able to tell you which staff member might have had the notes & likely will share your horror they wre found in thr gym!
While you're there you can clarify the dyslexia & "too many operations" issues.
    All the very best!

In that case go into any conversation cautiously. You may know your child pretty well but do you know someone elses?

You still need to make an appointment at the school though.

I don't understand some of the comments on here. The OP has been told that confidential notes about his child have been left lying about and other nine year olds are aware of concerns about dyslexia, sickness levels etc. If the other child has made this up then the school needs to investigate that, if a teacher left the notes lying about they need to be reminded about their responsibilities, if the school really think there is a problem with OPs child then the OP has every right to know about it.

If someone was disciplined that decision might be out of your hands. Im also sure the school would be able to work out who the teacher was.

Also, notes lying on a gym hall floor? Thats stretching the boundaries of credibility in my view, these notes could have been anywhere, and you are getting the information of where they read the notes third hand as well.

In fact, you dont actually know that there were any notes at all, because you werent there. Id tread very carefully.

But how will the OP find out if they don't raise the issue?

While you may be right, we are way too precious about our teachers in Britain, putting them on pedestals and not daring to criticise them in case they take it out on our sons and daughters. It's about time we all held teachers to account a bit more than we do. Their behaviour at times is diabolical.

Leaving notes like that out for 9 year olds to read is beyond the pale. They shouldn't have been kept in the classroom - a staff room would have been more secure - much less out and about where kids can have access to them. What gives the teacher the right to claim a child has "too many operations", much less leave her opinion lying around on paper for others to see? Or to say someone is dyslexic if he/she doesn't have adequate training to be able to make that diagnosis?

OP, I wouldn't put up with this. I would bypass the school and have a word about your concerns with the council.

As someone whos mum has been teaching for 40 years and never done anything "diabolical" to anyone, Id like to say theres nothing like making some massive assumptions.

Held to account? For what exactly? One teacher makes a mistake so teachers need to be held to account?

Ive seen my mum teach, in fact Ive been taught by her, she taught at my secondary school for a time, shes now a primary school teacher, she has a large class at the moment, over 30 kids. I couldnt do her job for 5 minutes and I suspect a lot of people couldnt either.

I dont like my doctor very much. I think the service I get is awful. But thats one practice. I dont make sweeping generalisations about the health service based on my experience.
