You need to teach your daughter that in life if she goes snooping into things that don't belong to her then she might find things she wished she hadn't found.

As for how a nine year old might interpret 'gifted and talented', I remember that at the age of nine I knew who had natural ability in my class, who was alright and who in the class was not the brightest pea in the pod, as a kid you know who is good at school/sports/music etc, it really shouldn't be a shock.

As for speaking to the Head, what do you want to actually achieve from this?

Probably to try to understand what 'too many operations' means and to see whether the school has serious concerns about the OP's daughter's possible dyslexia.

Obviously she needs to appreciate that a nine year old's spin on things is about as reliable as Malcolm Tucker but even so it's worth finding out more.

Lol, yes I'm very aware that a child's version is not always/ever reliable! I'm not one of these precious parents that takes their child's word verbatim.

    Oh for goodness sake !

It is pretty obvious that there are two major issues that need to be addressed with the school
First data protection. It is completely unacceptable that notes like this weren't stored securely eg where nosey nine year olds couldn't access them., secondly if a teacher feels there is a possibility the OPs daughter is dyslexic and this has not been followed up then the parent needs to ask why.

OP this kind of issue is not what parents evening is for. Make an appointment with the head to discuss your concerns and find out the full story first hand.

I really can't believe some of the unhelpful comments from some posters above.

Duchy has just put it far better than I did!

its a serious issue even if the kids didn't fully understand what the notes said. They shouldn't have been able to access them!

Sorry I was planning to make an appt to speak to the head at parents evening, my apologies if I wasn't clear. I thought it would be a good idea to grab some time with him while I was there. Was planning to phone tomorrow to ask for a meeting.

Where did I say I was taking it as gospel? I was planning to get to the bottom of it by speaking to some grown ups.

  • a - how have kids accessed this sort of info in the first place?
b - why does the teacher think my daughter has dyslexia and why hasn't this been followed up
c - what does 'too many operations' mean in reality to the school? are they concerned about her missing schoolwork etc?
