our highstreet is full of empty shops and charity shops.

i trade at local markets and country shows throughout the year. I also have a highstreet store, but unless trade picks up then when the shop lease runs out in 2015 i wont be renewing it. I would just get another van and set the staff from the shop to trade at some markets.

I saw posters about it at a local Christmas Fair, one where the stalls were all run by local 'makers' and crafts people.

A local independent shop owner has reported that she found the Small Business Saturday weekend quieter than the previous weekend.

I did think it was quite ironic that the 'Small shop Saturday' campaign was run by American Express who are the one company who's cards are not accepted at almost all the local traders in my town due to their cripplingly high charges.

One thing I have found though is that I can tend to get stuff cheaper in my local independant shops than in majors or online.
