John Lewis - Have they matched cash back deals ?

I purchased an ipad mini from John Lewis online and then collected it at store on Thursday

Thursday afternoon I saw Curry's offer for the same ipad at the same price but then with £30 cash back which you apply direct to currys and they then refund you the money

I have submitted a price match and they have refused to match the offer despite being never undersold

The reason is that the deal that currys offer is to buy the ipad at £479 (64gb version) and then apply for the cash back

I have seen various threads on uk deals with customers who have received the price match has anyone on this community ?

John Lewis advise that the reason they wont match is that currys sell the ipad at the same price but technically they dont as you are assured the £30 back !

I am fuming at John Lewis never had this issue before
yes there is an extra warranty but I have bought the apple one so dont need it

I would take the ipad back if I hadnt purchased apples extended apple care plus but I want to get my facts right before I make a compliant to John Lewis

Whats your thoughts ?

I beleive JL will only match the advertised price of the item, which as you say is the same as you paid.

JL are corrrect in that 'technically' it's the same price. It is. You have to hand over £479 at the time of purchase to get Currys to give you the iPad. You couldn't say to them 'I'll just give you £449 today as I'm guaranteed the cashback anyway'.

The cashback from Currys isnt guaranteed as you only have a certain window to apply for it, and if they go bust then you won't get it. They are counting on some people forgetting to claim etc just like with mobile phone cashback deals.

Rather than a complaint, maybe a polite email saying you were disappointed to discover they wouldn't match the Currys offer may result in some goodwill. Apart from that, your best chance of getting the £30 back is to take it back and buy from Currys.

The important part is that in bold as that is what JL state that they will match.
We match prices publicly available to all customers, based on those displayed in a shop, on the high street competitor's own website, or the first price quoted to us over the phone.

Sometimes I wonder... Would it have been so bad just to buy from Curry's? Especially seeing as you purchased Apple Care, if it was their after sales service that had dissuaded you, you had already pretty much bypassed it...

They have been price matching the Tesco Direct £30 of Tablets code but that is slightly different because they take £30 off immediately when entering the code. You don't have to claim anything back afterwards.

Your best bet is probably waiting for Tesco Direct to get more stock and then claiming based on their price.

They have only been doing that if they are in stock

There's something I'm looking at on the john lewis web site for £279.95, I've seen the same thing at another site for £199.99, would john lewis actually match that price?

Depends on the web site you have seen it on. Think the rules mean the web site has to have a high street shop as well, so not Amazon.
