Yes it's a well known shop as well.

you will probably get a better answer if you actually name the web site

If it's a bike, I'd buy it from a bike shop rather than a department store. If it's cheaper to buy a bike from a bike shop that a department store, then there's a second reason to do so.

So, I guess my question would be: why bother with JL for it?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

It's not a bike, it's a gps, the reason for wanting to get it at john lewis was the simple fact is closer to me than an Evans shop.

I bought a Panasonic Smart/3D TV on line from John Lewis towards the end of September because of perfect screen size & 5 year guarantee. Was absolutely livid to discover purely by accident, they had reduced price by £150.00 the day after they had installed our new set. Found online complaint form & vented my feelings. The very next day I received a very pleasant email from J.L. refunding £150.00 to my c.c. I was very impressed with their customer service. So overjoyed used the refund to purchase blu-ray player from them.

I love it when people get angry about prices going down, it's so !!!!ing !!!!!!. Why get angry? Just point it out. Would you be angry the price went up the day after you bought it?

As for cashback offers, an industry source I spoke to said that cashback offers only have a 40% successful application rate -- that is, only 40% of people who buy goods with cashback apply for and are successful in the application for cashback, and that's why places like JL don't pricematch them.

I have no idea why you needed to vent anger when a simple "hello its went down in price could i have the difference please" would have sufficed, they pricematch themselves for 28 days so thats why would have been refunded the difference.
