How to open the electric plug?

I have never read so many people posting so much nonsense in my entire life, apologies to those that have been sensible.
If the plug has been immersed in water you have no way of knowing if and where the water has gotten in to it there is NO safe and guaranteed way of drying out a moulded plug.
Your only practical solution is to cut off the plug and replace it with a new one, if you are not sure how to do this ask someone who can.
Alternatively as it is a steamer you can often buy a replacement lead with a moulded plug, just make sure it has the same amp fuse in it.
There are no other safe and sensible options.
Cutting off the plug of itself is not an entirely safe or sensible option, because the cut off plug represents a danger. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
And what do you think the OP is going to do, shove the cable into the socket without a plug on it?The discussion about the danger of cutting off the plug reminds me of a real incident a couple of years ago which was discussed in some DIY forums. A handyman (I think) visited a house to repair an appliance. He cut the plug off the lead. Somehow a small child got hold of it, plugged it in and was killed. Before then, it had never occurred to me (with no kids) that cut-off plugs with leads attached were particularly dangerous.
The fact that you have ignored the risk presented by the cutoff plug and you scoff about the idiocy of putting the remaining lead into a socket suggests that the hazard is very much underrated. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
You are absolutely right, might I suggest to be completely safe that they OP contacts a suitable WEEE compliant waste disposal contractor to come to their house and collect the cut off plug and take it away for professional disposal. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0

Anything I suppose to avoid admitting that drying out the lead has some merit.
None of this is entirely risk free. I am not so much objecting to your preference to cut off the plug as to you presenting it - mistakenly - as a risk free option. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
Sorry I neglected to include a sarcastic smiley in my last post.
It has no merit unless you like playing roulette with your life.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:You are a joy tweaker, :T:T:T, (that's a bit of sarcasm in reply for you.
You miss the point why I and I guess others have the hump with you, reread your 1st post, clue, it's the 1 where you rubbish everyone else.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Not so very different to cutting off a plug - except that cutting off the plug is more likely to put a child's life on the roulette wheel.
Now I'm really going to throw a cat among the pidgeons.:D
How about you get some of these:
If you are worried about childrem pluggin things in. :rotfl:0 -
I don't know about you, but when I cut the plug off an electrical device, I tend to put it straight into the bin. You know, rather than distribute them to the the neighbourhood kids.

Throwing the plug away does not ensure that it cannot fall into the hands of children. Wheelie bins get tipped over, etc.
And you must be quite mistaken to think that socket covers are a meaningful contribution to safety. Have a look at http://www.fatallyflawed.org.uk/. This shows how a socket cover can be abused in a random child like way to actually open the shutters on the live and neutral connections - and explains that BS1363 sockets are shuttered, requiring an earth pin to be inserted to open the shutters to the live and neutral connections
Actually, I think you are trollingYou might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
I'm starting to think you might be crazy.Throwing the plug away does not ensure that it cannot fall into the hands of children. Wheelie bins get tipped over, etc.
Then we would never do anything!

Here's a thought, just bash the plug pins with a hammer so that they will not align well enough to be plugged in anywhere. Then throw it away.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
