Don't forget you may also need your phone line for the internet, unless you're using 3G or something.0

Thanks
You don't need a phoneline for BB with Virgin, assuming it's cable. However standalone BB will cost around £8pm more than BB with phone so you're not saving the whole of the line rental.
However your main problem is that you must have both boxes connected to the phone to have Multiroom.0 -

Trying to do similar myself - the free box is no good to me.
Best I have worked out is:
Get the installation done with the free box.
Get a second hand Sky+HD box off eBay or Gumtree - £50 or less.
Put the Sky card in and phone them up to pair it.
Get rid of the free box for very little cash.
As above, BOTH boxes must be permanently connected to the phoneline.0 -
I as a very long tkme sky customer have skyhd box downstairs and 4 old grey boxes upstairs. I rang to upgrade one upstairs so my son can watch on demand and catch up and they want 250.00 from me..I am also looking on ebay..not paying that0

Remember if you currently only have one cable coming from the dish to your upstairs boxes then you still have lots of work required.
Take a hint anyone getting a new multiroom installed to specifically ensure the engineer uses the twin cable (Standard now I think), and stick the appropriate connector on BOTH feeds.
Whether you are using them or not.0
