  • Our local HBs don't do fresh food either, we do get bits like oxo cubes, coconut milk, cereal bars, muesli and the one off lines at the front of the store.

The Nicky loo and kitchen roll are very popular, the cleaning stuff and medicine section is quite cheap and you can usually find a bargain toy or two.

I aways stock up on toiletries when there too

I absolutely love home bargains. I dont think the stores have identical stock. Things Ive bought, large bottle of heinz worcester sauce, 79p, 49p tuna (for the cats), they do 500ml sparkling water for 19p, cheaper than aldi. They do a green tea and vitamin drink for 25p. Large bags of kettle crisps between 79 and 89p. Koka noodles, 25p. Antipasti £1, including artichokes, sundried tomatoes and chargrilled peppers.

I got vive soy soya milk for 29p, its £1.25 in Tescos. Pack of nairns oatcakes with 6 individual packs of oatcakes, 59p, I paid 50p for one small pack in asda. Hovis crackers 59p.

They also do 85p pesto sauce, I bought a bottle of chilli and garlic sauce yesterday, also cheap.

They have large boxes of thorntons chocs for 4.99 just now, also some lesser known brands are a pound a box. They do individual packs of golden wonder crisps for 20p.

Bottles of wine, reasonable, they also do individual cans of G and t for 99p, same with g and diet t, also vodka and lemonade. They also do cans of wine for 49p and perry for 49p as well, they also do 3 litres of perry for 4.99 and have a similar drink to Pimms for 4.99 for 70cl.

My local home bargains dont do any bread, potatoes or veg, but its next door to aldi so I can shop at aldi for the things I cant get at home bargains.

paulineb I spotted the Nairn boxes on bottom shelf and just assumed they were same size as ASDA :o

Did spot a natural energy drink in cans but the name of it is P u s s y and honestly couldn't see OH drinking that in the office :rotfl:

The antipasto sounds nice, OH loves all that so will have to call in again. There were loads of Koka noodles but OH can only have rice noodles or shirataki noodles because most contain wheat.

That's a great price on the soya milk !

Didn't look at the alcohol but noticed Marston's Pedigree as I went past.
  • I love Home Bargains, it's like Approved Food in shop form. Very good for toiletries and seasonal items, and the alcohol is often fairly decent value.

I also buy cat food from home bargains, theres a brand called fatima thats £1 for 900gs. They also do glucosamine tablets for 99p, glucosamine gel for 1.99, its about 6 quid in holland and barratt.

Loads of brand names at a discount, Im just sorry I didnt shop there years ago, its saved me a fortune.

The heinz worcestershire sauce was 79p for 410ml, thats a great buy and its anchovy free for people who dont eat fish.

They have two types of nairns oatcakes, one is a slightly bigger box but theres about 5p difference on the price

They also do primula spread. Their microwavable rice is very good value, they also do a tin of mussels for 69p (b and m are slightly cheaper at 2 for a quid)

They also do the reggae reggae sauce range very cheaply as well. They also do some bruschetta biscuits and a few different types of the bruschetta sauce jars, again very reasonable.

My local home bargains is always jam packed. The staff are always pleasant as well, nothing is too much trouble if you are struggling (with me its generally to reach things as Im a short person).

I agree, its like a better type of approved foods. I used to buy from approved foods a lot, I dont these days because home bargains its cheaper, no delivery.

My local is also doing the bottles of vitamin water for 39p. In tesco those are currently 1.45. They also do cheap tortilla wraps and fajita kits.

The home bargains near me sell a really nice curry in a jar. It's a tall thin jar with a spice cap on the lid. The flavour I've had is Goan. Ingredients are good with an array of spices and no crap. It's gorgeous with prawns.

Had some good toy/book bargains for my lad's Christmas pressies which has saved me a load of cash, especially the Lego books.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

They also sell some very decently priced arts and craft sets and also individual tubes of paint. My mum is quite arty and I had already bought her some stuff from poundworld, but I might get a few extra bits from home bargains.

I also got a (tiny) christmas tree for 49p that my mum is going to take to put in her classroom.

I posted before that I had bought a couple of jars of garlic cloves from aldi, but home bargains, they are a bit plainer, no flavours on the cloves, but about half the price.

They also do dog and cat beds quite cheaply, I think for about 3.99 and they do some of the astonish range of cleaning products as well, 89p-99p

They also do cartons of pomegreat, the lighter one as well. Its 99p. In Morrisons its 1.45 and in holland and barrett its 2.15.

For a litre and you cant get the light one in either of the places I mentioned.

The cleaning wipes are good value and perform really well too. Window & glass, floor, bathroom wipes are 59p a pack of 25 sheets or £1 for 2 packs. The glass wipes don't have that chemical smell and I use them to wipe the bedframe / bedside tables too as prolonged chemical smells bring on my rhinitis allergy. The floor wipes are great at removing stains etc and I have been known to use them on the kitchen table too :)
  • There's an HB near me, a Aldi opened in the same retail estate a few months back.

I found HB quite good for bulbs and gardening stuff, but general quality of homewares is awful IMHO - even shoddier than Argos. You have to look long anf hard for a genuine 'bargain'.
