Home Bargains - what do you think ?

Visited Home Bargains for first time on Friday. Not what I expected from the website https://www.homebargains.co.uk as more of a store than a warehouse.

Seemed to me almost no fresh food at all, besides eggs, bread and potatoes.

Though there's a lot of packet stuff eg cereals and cereal bars, not so many tins/jars. Bought pickled cockles and pickled mussels to try as part of Christmas buffet and additive-free Fruit Factory 12 mini lunchbox treats only 89p so better/cheaper than Lidl equivalent.

Spotted DP soda crystals for 65p which is usually £1 everywhere.

Picked up nice pair of black Thinsulate fleece gloves for 1.99 for OH. Real bargain price.

My mother made a beeline for the Aussie Miracle shampoo which she said was much cheaper. Pretty much all of the pharmacy stuff eg Nurofen etc looked cheaper than Sainsbury's.

So I'm not as enthusiastic as I am for Lidl but I'd go back. It was certainly very clean and tidy store with friendly staff.

Have you picked up some great bargains at Home Bargains ? Used the click & collect service ?

Does each store have same stock or does it vary ?

Our local home bargains don't sell fresh food at all.

Ive never thought of it being a warehouse, ours is a store.

make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Sadly no HB in our area.:(
  • We have quite a large Home Bargains at the other side of town. It opened last year in what was the old Netto (much revamped of course!) but, unfortunately, we don't have any of the fresh or even frozen food that some large stores sell.

I still love it though and try to get down there at least once a fortnight. Like tessie bear I get quite excited when it's the day of my trip!!!!

It sells quite a large range of tinned and bottled items. Plus a nice range of cereal and cereal bars. I am disappointed though that they seem to have stopped selling the tins of cherry tomatoes at 3 for £1. Cleaning and laundry products are always a good price, as are hair and beauty products.

Not "Food & Groceries" I know, but I have had lots of bargains in the stationery/birthday cards/gift bags aisle too. The toy section is also worth a browse if you have any little people to buy for.

^^^^ I'm down down to my last 2 tins of cherry toms had lots of them at one point i will miss them too.
  • Their carpet cleaner with a plastic brush on the top is fab - even better than vanish and very easy to use!!
  • I got some collapsible storage boxes with a black rose design: I am going to give some as Christmas presents as they look 'classy'!

Stardrops and soda crystals are very cheap there.

It is quite a way for me to go, but I feel another visit coming on...

Yes I've used the click and collect service, not as organised as the supermarkets although could be the store I used. A store has opened up that's closer and parking is free so can go more often. The microwave popcorn I found is nice but I'd found it cheaper in B&M.

The store that's closer has a small fresh and frozen food section.

Not sure if each store will vary in terms of what they stock but could depend on the size of the stores/amount of shelf space I guess.

I'd say Home Bargains is more like B&M, both shops are more likely to have end of lines items,

We have a HB within walking distance and now get most of our toiletries and some pharmacy stuff there - astoundingly cheaper than Boots and the rest - as well as boxed / pocket tissues, cleaning products, envelopes & stationery. Never tried the foodstuff as it is full of processed carp IMO.
