Just to give you a bit of info about Apple may handle it, a work colleague had an iPhone 5 which was 13 months old and it developed a pink 'tinge' on the screen after updating to iOS 7.

Called Apple, after 5 mins on the phone they agreed to send out a replacement phone which arrived the next day (same courier took back the old phone). So if you call them it may well save you a trip to the Apple store.
  • Thank you. I am learning allsorts here.

Still downloading at present. I am going to hazard a guess that it may download to iTunes but not install on the phone. Only because the phone is showing no signs of charging beyond the 95% ( that it probably was at yesterday morning)

I will go to the store later as can combine with other shopping. Just didn't fancy the idea of a second trip after being packed away like previous poster's wife.

I am sure you will get good service from Apple, they really do try to look after their customers. I had my iPhone 4S replaced last year under warranty and the guy next to me had an issue with his home button playing up. The Apple bloke took the phone out of its case and the back was smashed to pieces. What did he do ? Replaced the phone. Pretty good service that, many companies would have tried to fob the customer off.
  • Well this is weird. it tried installing the new IOS and was unable to ( error code given)
However, I can use the phone again!!!!

I will keep the appointment. Something's very wrong. I do appreciate all your posts.
  • Phone was replaced.

Glad to hear it, I'm also not surprised. Many people slate Apple and I agree that some of their products are overpriced but based on my own experience their customer service is second to none.
  • glad u got another

  • Should I be concerned ,do you think?

Yesterday, I received an acknowledgement email for a genius bar appointment at a store nowhere near me. I never made any appointment.
I looked at the store website, and to book an appointment you need your Apple ID and password.
Could this be linked to my returned faulty phone? I thought I watched the guy erase the faulty phone completely but can't think of any other possibility.

Should I create a new ID or just change the password to be on the safe side?

You aren't the first and it could be a scam.
