'mugged off' by HMS Dragon's skipper!!

what im looking for is the e-mail address of Admiral Sir George Zambellas so i can tell him of my recent 'interactions' with one of his captains, bear with me..........

on Armistice Day i had the prievilege of attending the rememberance service at Valletta Saluting Battery in Malta. among the guest were some of the crew of HMS Dragon, including 1 scarey Chief Gunner, the Commander and the Captain.

after the service the guest mingled and chatted. the Captain was talking to his Commander looking out over the habour with 3 navy ships in view.

i asked him which was his and he pointed his ship out. as im bit of a geek i'd googled it and asked a few questions about his ship. when i turned around awaiting his reply, he'd turned to his Commander and basically blanked me!

whilst i understand i must have come across as bit of a nerd and geek i feel as he was representing the Navy, and tax payers money, he should have been more of an ambassador and engaged; even if he'd rather have been pulling teeth!!

am i been unresonable or should anaraks be made to walk the plank!?

So just to clarify you were asking a high ranking member of the navy some questions without having the decency to look at him as you were asking the questions?

Seems a bit rude. No wonder he turned away.

Yes but it's still polite to look at the person you are addressing. He probably didn't know you were still talking to him!

I don't really see the point of emailing a complaint. These people aren't customer services reps they are highly trained skilled members of the armed forces and you want to try and damage this guys career because you feel he slighted you at a party! It's pathetic!

I don't remember the slogan being "help the heroes (but only the ones prepared to engage in polite social chit chat)"

how i have interpreted this (which may not be how it actually happened but this is what I have read from what you have written)
You turned away to use your phone to google this guys ship instead of asking him about it - which is what I would have done - and you're accusing HIM of being rude for ignoring you...

unless of course you already KNEW which ships would be in the harbour and knew exactly who he is so you could specifically ask HIM about HIS particular ship. in which case I would be a bit miffed if that happened.

Reading it again it appears you interrupted his conversation with the commander to ask him a question and are annoyed that he answered the question and then returned to his previous conversation without answering your additional questions!

The more I think about this the simple fact you are thinking about complaining about a member of the armed forces for such an incredibly pretty reason on armistice day of all days makes me absolutely flabbergasted!

    Unbelievable.

your missing the point. i had googled the ship earlier when it had docked, and i was paying my respects on the day during my holiday. i also dont want to damage anyones career am sure if i could email the admiral he'd understand what i was getting at....

my point is, and for any civil service that wears a uniform, your the face of the service you represent. if you were visiting your fire station and asked about the engine, theyd engage with you, the RNLI for example, visit a station and they'll talk for to hours to you.

i didnt interupt his conversion, i addressed him as sir and was polite. im a great believer in the armed forces and was honoured to be in the complany of past and present hero's; i just wish the experience of taking to a distinguished member of the armed forces didnt leave me feeling like i did.

You asked him which was his ship and he pointed it out to you.

    What "reply" were you expecting?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Yep email the admiral. I am sure he has nothing better to do than speak to his captain to resolve the fact that while on active service in Malta he didn't answer every question given to him by what sounds like a very unpleasant member of the public.

I would suspect it's not easy to get this guys email address anyway as he's not the member of a private company. He's a highly ranked naval officer who has better things to do with his time than deal with ridiculous queries from members of the public.

He asked a "few" questions after this opening gambit.

I am unsure how this works as usually when I ask a question I wait for an answer, I don't ask additional questions as that would be confusing for everyone.

I suspect the poster has terrible social skills.
