Ok if you say so. Who are you trying to convince, us or yourself...
Taking advantage of schools financially is very, very low on that moral spectrum...
Making a 400% margin taking advantage of tax payers money and school funds that could be used on something better is very bad news. I'm not surprised that you don't sleep well at night.
Yet again :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So I do a skilled job for schools, I embrace smaller schools with low sales volumes which leads to less than minimum wage for some jobs. I then sell DVDs to the schools for £5 each and the schools sells them for £6 so therefore makes £1 per copy sold.
Sorry if that makes you bitter but there the cold hard facts of the highly ethical business you are trying to shoot down. :T
PS if I thought you were worth it I could easily prove this by giving you contact details of heads of a few schools I work with, but there is that worry your bitterness and jealousy my lead you to contact said schools with false accusations about me to ruin something you could never achieve.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

I wouldn't bother Hamish, as you seem to think your always correct when in fact your the same as the rest of us...
Its all opinions and nothing more but just to make you feel better, sometimes I actually value your opinion, but thats all it is Hamish an opinion.
You only ever seem to post in this section of the forum which is a bit weird TBH.Being so "focussed" on house prices really isn't healthy for anyone.0 -

Yet again I question the ethics of BTL and prices rises, anybody want to explain/justify?Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

I haven't got a BTL or a desire to own one but you seem obsessed about them. They do provide a service as people do want to rent and some will never be able to buy. I don't think they are the best way to supply rental properties but as far as I can see at the moment no one else is going to provide them.0 -

What I'm struggling with is why it's highly ethical. Is it the photography business or you that's ethical?
Both could be questioned. These videos are sold to consumers, to an extent, based on guilt. Also you're out competing other businesses who would be acting illegally if they paid their staff less than minimum wage.
On the same theme is it BTL that's unethical or BTL owners or do you disapprove of any business which sells essential products or services?
It's all a little irrational and shrill - even for this board.0 -
You can dress it up as much as you like but using a camera, using photo editing software and then making DVDs of the work isn't highly skilled at all. But then again if you're a simple soul you would think it was skilled. So I do a skilled job for schools
It's all a bit it like complaining about the banks being bailed out but then you get into loads of debt and get bailed out by your girlfriend and think it's ok. It's all a bit hypocritical but then hypocrites will always be hypocrites... Won't they Percy...0 -
Isn't pretty much everything the most expensive it's ever been? Surely that's just the consequence of living in an inflationary economy.
BTL is neither moral nor immoral, it's just another business. Lots of businesses make good money by providing essentials. Most medicines were made with the hope of turning a profit for example. Ditto buses, cookers, central heating systems, food, drink, educational materials and fire engines.
Profits aren't unethical. Sometimes the way they are made is unethical e.g. cutting costs at the expense of the health of your workers and customers but profits reflect efficiency and reward for taking a risk.0 -
What I'm struggling with is why it's highly ethical. Is it the photography business or you that's ethical?.....
It's another one of those words that is basically meaningless. It means following a code of ethics, which in turn is a body of moral principles.
If my own moral principles include ripping off the old and disabled, telling people what they want to hear in preference to the truth, then I can run a business totally upon those lines. The extent to which it is legal, I can truly claim it is an ethical business.
I simply love hearing debates and questions about "Ethical Investing", and listening to the proponents tie themselves up in knots whenever searching questions come along.
If I describe myself (or others) as 'religious', again that could include the worshipping of any of 2,000 Gods, and could mean once a year, once a week, every day, or living virtually every minute of the day according to my own god's 'way'.
The word 'honest' is another one. We are all honest at times, and dishonest at others. The only difference is the frequency and severity of each. At one end of the scale, stealing your grandmother's handbag is dishonest. Telling your sister her new-born baby is "beautiful" can also be dishonest. And you did like that tie that you got from great aunt on your birthday, to the extent that it went straight in the bin, didn't you?
If any supermarket tells you their produce is fair-trade, organic, local, and sustainable, then that's not only unethical, but dishonest as well.
Honestly!0
