I'm still overwhelmed by it all. All weekend long people have been calling, Facebooking, e-mailing congratulations, and the sheer number of people on here who have commented and/or thanked my first post. I didn't realise so many were cheering me on behind the scenes (behind the screens? :D ) thank you all.

And my friends at the company, who obviously knew more than they were letting on, have said everyone was putting in good words for me left-right-and-centre, since after the last few years temping there they know I know the job, I'm reliable and they like working with me. Which has been really nice to find out I'm well-liked there and I don't have any new-job-nerves about any of it as I get on well with everyone and know the role already. (Though of course there's always more to learn!)

Tomorrow (later today ) I'll have to make appointments with the Jobcentre and call the Housing people to come off benefits, which will be AMAZING! And try to get doc & dentist appointments rearranged if I can, to get those done before I start work. And stuff like rearranging my room and stocking up the freezer before I only have the weekends to do it.

And amusing myself for 2 weeks off before work begins, although I told my agency I'll still temp the next 2 weeks so I bet I'll get the call in the morning! Still, first payday will be 6 weeks away so some earnings before then will definitely help.

It's unlikely now I'll get to do the family Christmas Oop North (depending what my shifts are) but I'll make sure I have plenty of books, music and nice food if I'm by myself on Christmas Day, that won't bother me. I can get out on Boxing Day and do something fun then.

Crikey, I can't believe how much my life has changed in just a couple of days. :)
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

    Oh, this is silly!

I have worked steadily from May to the beginning of November. After a week and a half with no work, I put in a JSA claim and was given an appointment for yesterday, and in the meantime I got this job.

I went to the Job Centre yesterday and was registered as a new claimant, but I've been told I need to keep applying for jobs and showing them my job search diary until my new job starts.

What's the point in that? I have been looking for a job and have found one. Sending out applications for jobs I don't want is just wasting the time of recruiters and genuine applicants.

I would have said thanks but no thanks and not claimed, but the travel fares next month will eat a big chunk of my savings, and that's an expense I wouldn't have if it weren't for the fact I'm going to work!

Just apply for the minimum amount of jobs on a temp agency website like reed, apply for the jobs that already have loads of applicants, shouldn't waste much of your time or anyone else's.
