Putting 12% of salary into a pension but only started a few years ago so not worth much yet.
Feel like we are in a bit of a poor financial position at the moment but at 35 with 3 children under 6 I think (hope) we have time to pull it back. Trying hard to improve our spending/saving habits for the future.0 -

Pension should have been worth a fortune according to the lying bar stewards who "advised" me yrs ago but now cashed in & only worth about £250per month although do have a couple of small company pensions which should bring in a tenner a week on retirement if we survive that long.0 -

Basically I'm far too indecisive/busy as to where/what to invest in and as such am sitting on cash not earning much interest at all.0 -

Probably naive hope of retiring at 55“In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing at all.” - Roosevelt0 -
I say the latter because sometimes the huge assets of some posters on here make me feel a failure!! Its not envy I assure you.
In some cases, amazement that some quite young people have amassed a great deal on fairly average salaries. Best of luck to them but I can't help wondering, How do they do it?
I guess some maybe through inheritance.
+1 and bingo! I was surprised to see some mid-20s with little mortgage AND large savings - surely has to have been inheritance. I live at home and have savings only, and even then I don't think the amount is great. In fact, here it is:
29 y/o, single, income £48.5k
Assets:
Car - £3k
Savings/shares - £48k
Pension: likely £20k or so
Liabilities:
Student Loan - £1.8k
I'm getting no money coming to me whatsoever in the form of inheritance (sucks to see friends getting £200k+, despite the circumstance in which they receive it). Chance of buying a place to live whilst saving for retirement and having a life? Slim (high cost of housing is ruining my generation). Never having kids as can't afford it (again due to insane cost of housing). Worked hard and got a good degree but feel like I should have done better, especially seeing the assets of similarly aged people here.0 -
Age 53. No dependants
Salary 42k
Cash ISAs £46k
Other Savings £28k
S&S ISA £51k
Shares £19k
House £200k-ish
Pension Active member of final salary scheme with the equivalent of 34 years service
Also waiting for probate on an inheritance, which includes 1/3rd of a house.
Debts. Nil apart from day to day credit card use.
So I'd say I'm pretty comfortable.0 -
