Just don't park in front of his 'driveway'. Tell visits to park the otherside of your house or leave a gap.

    Why create problems for yourself

If you read the opening post, the new neighbour has decided to build a driveway on the assumption that he can simply deter people from parking in front of his property.
If he decided to apply to the local council for a dropped kerb, and pay the fee, then he will be able to legally drive across the kerb, but until then, he is simply trying to throw his weight around.
Not very good behaviour from a new neighbour, and the existing people are a bit weak if they just let him get away with it.

no requirement for signage for a private individual ;) can only film on his land

He can also film any public place and any private land that can be seen from a public place.

Why not get everyone in the Rd to do what he has done..then there will be nowhere for anyone to park so the road can be renamed "Selfish Avenue"

If everyone did that then they could all park in their drives and leave the road clear :D

I wouldn't park in front of someones house/premises if there was a clear vehicle entrance, whether the pavement was dropped or not,but then again I'm a considerate driver

The way I'm reading this, the guys thinking of (or is) extending his property and wants off street parking, covered by CCTV.

    Is it really so bad?

The parking is not as serious as the extension he's building, its foundations are round the edge of the whole of the back garden which I would think is about 7m x 5m, I don't know how high it is going to be, what its going to be built of, the type of roof or anything as he hasn't applied for planning permission or building regulation approval. At the moment there's just a 2m fence between our gardens so anything built above that will involve some loss of amenity, light etc. So to me that is bad

There are never any winners in neighbour disputes. Think very carefully where you want this to go and what you want to achieve. Have you actually tried to discuss your concerns with them? (apart from the initial 5 minute shouting match).

No I haven't, but they don't really even acknowledge me when ive said hi so I wouldnt waste my breath plus its a large family and I feel a bit intimidated. It has also occurred to me that if I raise things with them directly i'd be bound to have to declare if I sell but if I leave it up to council to enforce the law and accept whatever they do it's not really a neighbour dispute id just be carrying out my civic duty imho and the issue would hav ebeen concluded satisfactorily

Why dont you just call up the council and ask where are the plans for the huge extension next door. That extension is going to be much worse than his illegal car parking.
Council will visit him and see extension and the illegal parking he has created.

Could he simply be replacing the fence with a heavy duty brick wall?

He would probably need planning for that.

I'm well aware of what ops put - just don't see the problem with parking a few meters further forward and telling guests to leave a gap in the interest of keeping the piece.

And keeping the peace and standing up for yourself is not one and the same!

Ops post reads as though he wants to create something that could potentially be avoided
