New Qashqai or Yeti

Well I've just done a Google search for Qashqai reliability issues and the only real complaint was a few people moaning about banging their heads on the rear parcel shelf when loading/unloading the boot.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

And of course VAG engines are faultless?

As I said, I know a number of people who work in the Nissan plant, including some senior shop-floor people and people concerned with quality control; and they tell enough warning stories to put me off. Nissan quality ain't what it used to be, I assure you. The number of recalls affecting British built Nissans over the last few years is alone enough to re-inforce my view.

Hence; faced with the choice between the 'not-quite German build quality' with 'pretty-much German materials' of Nissan, or the 'German build quality' with 'Nissan materials' of Skoda, I'll take the Skoda every time.

(just for fun, of the ~20 people I know who work for Nissan, 6 work in QC or senior-line positions - guess how many of those drive a Nissan? It isn't 6.)

Sorry but I just don't buy that.

A Qashqai isn't just like Laguna or Megane. Laguna's and Megane's aren't actually best sellers in their class whereas Qashqai actually seems to be.

Not sure who you are talking to at Nissan but may be you should ask them why the rest of the car buying population is stupid and keeps on buying Qashqai's consistently since 2007 when looking in this segment when according to you they are all meant to be broken down at the side of the road.

There's a lot of BS on here about Nissan reliability. I'm no fan of modern day Renaults, sorry Nissans, but I know a couple of people who work there and between them they've got a Leaf, Qashqai, Juke and X- Trail. They'll get a decent enough discount to offset any doubts about reliability.

Yes, should be able to get a good discount and a short delivery time. Both things tend to point to supply > demand.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

I tried both, I had a brand new Yeti on a 3 day trial, it had quality problems and as I found on Skoda forums its not uncommon. Mine had a lot of squeeks and rattles you wouldn't expect in 90,000 mile car let alone a 900 mile one.

It does drive very well, very sure footed but feels a bit cramped, the boot is totally useless - like they put the glove box on the back by mistake. 2L diesel, typical VAG lump, low end grunt but rough as the rev's climb. Feeling vibration through the controls was a new experience after having Honda diesels that just don't.

I liked the Qashie, again boot could be better but the +2 fixed that, shame they are dropping it with the new model in February. Ride and seat one of the best if your a distance or relaxed driver. Interior a bit cheap, soon looks a bit scuffed and battered.

Having recently tried a brand new (post revision) IX35 it would be my pick over either, great value, good interior, really useful boot, quiet and a well judged suspension setup between comfort and good handling.

I think you misunderstand. The short delivery times most probably relate to the high demand for the product. The Qashqai is the 6th best selling car of any segment and the only crossover on the list:

We have the new Tiguan Match but am under no illusion about 'German build Quality'.
Some have reported vibration via the clutch and other controls - we have non.
Our 140ps goes very well and tows the caravan in splendid fashion.

Current average 45mpg (diesel manual) on a new tight engine - mostly urban.

Very smooth ride and a totally different car to the historic reviews on the web.

    You already did.

And am very glad I did, can't help but feel a little smug as I drive past a qashqai :-) there is a new qashqai out early next year so may be worth holding on and looking at newer version or seeing of they have a runout model soon if you decide to go down that route.
