Thanks for that then, I feel better now! :D

I planted late this year and even my hourly pleadings with them to grow faster doesnt seem to be making an impression on them

I know what you mean, it's the first thing I do as I get home, go and see how much they've grow, then check again before going to bed, then again in the morning :D

well, my basil is finally coming along well. My roquette (spelling?) doesn't look like roquette! but is growing fast - could I be over watering???

The dill has done really well, but the Thyme is non-existant - did I actually remember to plant the seeds in there?! ROFLMAO

This weekend job is to thin things out and chuck out the pot of dead 'bits' that didn't survive my week away - ooops.

Someone cheer me up? I've got so disheartened today, after having a brilliant start with all my seedlings coming up so well I managed to lose 2 trays of seedlings thanks to my own incompetence. I went off to the in-laws on Sunday without opening my mini-greenhouse and the heat killed off the less hardy trays.

This morning I went out into a garden which was brimming with baby lettuces etc only to find I now lost nearly 2 rows of lettuce which I think is down to mice :(

Don't know what to do now, should I have left the cloche over them for longer?

Don't worry moggins. I think it's all trial and error - I certainly have no green fingers. I have been judging my watering by whether they are drooping or not. And I have lots lots of things so far. My 12 pots are now 6!

Cheer -up! Can anyone offer us any tips?

I cant offer any tips, but I want to join in the 'darn bloody seedlings' gang lol. Mine seem to have stopped growing. They got off to a great start but as soon as they were nearly two inches high, that was it, go slow time!

Mind you it doesnt help that my neighbours have the biggest tree on the street at the side of my greenhouse. Its sunny all over my garden, except on my greenhouse and theres simply no where to move it to :-(

Neighbours love the tree and wont chop it down so I have to wait until the sun is higher in the sky to get any light in there before about 1.30pm

I'm now off on a hunt to find a cheap second hand table that I can put into the leanto conservatory, it's getting really warm in there now and I think I can get some more seedlings going quite quickly in there but I don't have much room so I need to raise them up above the junk on the floor.

well done all of you I have been growing stuff from seed for years now but i am not an expert, a lot of it is trial and error. There is nothing better than watching for your first seed to burst through the soil. I have had loads of mishaps over the years, only this year i ordered 5 packets of tomato seeds all expensive as well, i was trying to grow nicer varieties, anyway i started them off at xmas and by February i had 5 trays of lovely seedlings, i haven't got any now my cats eat them all. So now i have to buy the plants. I also never listen to the rights and wrongs of how to plant and when, i experiment with all sorts. Last year i grew strawberries in hanging baskets outside my back door, they were lovely and the birds didn't get them. I grow green beans and runner beans up walls in the middle of flower beds and potatoes in a bin, lettuce and herbs in hanging baskets, I also hang one hanging basket up then another under it hooked on the bottom-up to 5 at a time with alsorts in, you dont need much room for that. Just have a go, have a long look at what room you have and use what you can. Sorry for going on but I get really enthusiastic and want to encourage you all to carry on .

wallpaper tables normally very good for this sort of thing only cost about a fiver and fold up

Moggins, it's not too late to sow some more tomato seeds, last year I planted some in the middle of May and they soon caught up with the others. Good luck.
