Parking ticket at matalan

Options
Hi everyone, new to all this !

Ok so here it is, hands up I parked in a disabled parking bay and I am not disabled. I should not have done it and I never do. I made a mistake as initially did not realise it was disabled just a space to park, but it dawned on me as I was walking to matalan but thought will only be a few mins. I returned after 5 mins to find a parking ticket from smart parking to pay £90 or £45 if paid within 14 days.

I feel annoyed both for my actions and the fact that I got a ticket.

I have read various threads regarding tickets but just want up to date advice please.

What can I do about this, the parking guy saw me why did he not tell me to move 😔

Firstly - slapped wrists for parking where you did !!!!

    Now some questions :

    1. Was this in England or Wales ?
    2. Are you the registered keeper ?
    3. Did you get a "ticket" on the windscreen and if so what was the date ?

In conjunction to answering the above questions you might want to complain to the CEO of Matalan - Darren Blackhurst - ceo@matalan.co.uk

Read the sticky thread 'newbies...read this now!' which hopefully explains all. You can learn how to appeal and win.

And never take up a disabled bay you don't need, even though on private land it isn't the same as a Council disabled bay it is still there to address disabled needs of course.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Whilst all the regulars on here will be on your side in helping you in your challenge to Smart Parking, none will condone the selfish use of a vital space for someone less fortunate with their health than you.

Anyway, finger-wagging over, let's get on with helping you get rid of this parking charge.

You will need to do some work on this now, which will involve a bit of reading and understanding then a short appeal letter to the PPC and a more detailed written appeal submission to POPLA.

As this was a windscreen ticket you do NOTHING at this stage in contacting the PPC. Await the Notice to Keeper (NtK) which shouldn't arrive with you during the first 28 days after the event, but arrive with you before day 56 after the event - possibly not until after Christmas now.

Here is a 'newbie guide', written by foremost forum expert Coupon-mad to guide you through this - it is the most up to date guide (written in the last few days). Spend time learning and understanding from this, which will give you your best chance of beating the charge.

  • I got the ticket today, I thought I would ring the matalan store it happened at, spoke to the manager who just said it has nothing to do with them and to take it up with smart parking ! So is there any point of emailing CEO of matalan. I do have a black card lol as if that matters.

    He's lying !!!!

The plus point ? Smart Parking have never done court !
  • Hi all, I was looking at smart parking website and my ticket in question and noticed two pics were taken of my car I guess to prove I was parked in disabled bay without badge, is this the norm to take pics, getting worried as have never been in a situation like this before

Perfectly normal when windscreen tickets are involved. Your challenge won't be about whether or not you parked in a disabled spot, but about Smart Parking's legal ability to require you to pay them for your transgression.

That's the nub of where you are today with this.
