Restaurant runs out of cheapest wine - what should they provide instead

Does anyone know, if a restaurant runs out of the cheapest wine on their wine list, by law, do they have to provide the next best wine at the same price?

    Is this a wind up?

No, why would you think that? If they've run out of their cheapest wine, they'd tell you so and you could then decide whether to pay for the next cheapest or drink water.

Yes. You are entitled to get Coke/Pepsi for the same price for 2 years after the incident occurred. If you google secret european law, you'll find the details.

Used to get this all the time in a pub I used to work at - run out of Mild, regulars demanding premium lager for the same price! Demand away, I said...

  • So why are they advertising it on their website when they've run out?
