Does anyone know, if a restaurant runs out of the cheapest wine on their wine list, by law, do they have to provide the next best wine at the same price?

Is this a wind up?
No, why would you think that? If they've run out of their cheapest wine, they'd tell you so and you could then decide whether to pay for the next cheapest or drink water.0 -
If Tescos run out of Tesco Value cola, am i entitled by law to get cocacola/pepsi for the same price?0

Used to get this all the time in a pub I used to work at - run out of Mild, regulars demanding premium lager for the same price! Demand away, I said...0
