Iphone Courtesy Phone - Vodafone

Hi,

New here, so I hope this is the right place for this. I have vodafone's cover me insurance (£12.99 per month), and have just made a claim for my iPhone 4S as the screen is cracked. Claim has been excepted, and I was given courtesy phone, but it is some Vodafone android model.

Now, I cant access any contacts on this new phone as all my contacts are backed up to itunes/icloud, so I went back to the shop to ask about getting an Apple courtesy phone, but they said this is their standard offering. I'm thinking of ringing customer services to complain, but thought I'd check on here first to see if anyone has had a similar situation and could advise.

My thinking is that, with the iphone insurance being much more expensive that normal insurance, surely I should be getting an apple product as a courtesy, rather than an incompatible android devise? What is the point in a courtesy phone is I cant access my contract/messages etc?

I'll probably be ringing them tonight, but does anyone have any thoughts/previous experience with anything like this?

Cheers,

Dave.

Apple produce cost more generally so hence the higher insurance.

Read your contract, what do they specify? If you didn't have insurance you would not have any rights to a loan phone.

You may not ahve access to your contract but at least you can use the phone and contract services they provide.

You should argue that the loan phone should have the same operating system as the phone being repaired. It is unreasonable of Vodafone to expect you to buy the same apps again from Google Play when you already have bought them from iTunes. It is also unreasonable of Vodafone to expect you to spend considerable time configuring and learning a new operating system given the short period during which you will be using the loan phone. If you think more, you might be able to cite examples of why iOS is essential, for example you send lots of iMessages to Apple IDs; Android cannot do this. Clearly when a consumer buys a smartphone, it is for much more than basic phone calls and SMS.

Nothing in the contract to say they must even give a phone
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

It seems you are right. So the OP has been wasting our time on this. He's lucky to get any loan phone at all!

Exactly. In some cases, you can get home insurance for less!

Christ, I honestly don't know how to reply to such drivel.

Why would Vodafone expect someone to buy apps for a loan phone? Who in their right mind would want to buy apps for a phone that they are literally going to have for a few days?

Could you point out all these things you need to do to 'configure' and learn about a new phone that takes all this time, that makes it worth of even a second thought?

I'm sure many peoples view of what is 'essential' wouldn't be sending iMessages to people, and it's hardly going to persuade the network to give an alternative replacement.

Damn, mountain out of a molehill much?

The op should just use the damn lloan phone for a few days and be thankful they even got a loan phone in the first place.
