Don't get done get Dom was having problems with Pipex yesterday.

He sorted it out in the end but I think it was one of his hardest challenges so far.

Well I have spoken with Pipex today and they say they are unable to tell who the provider is saying that only BT can resolve it. Apparently BT wholesale rent lines to other companies such as talktalk, pipex etc. numerous other providers, whereas BT retail deals only with residential lines.

It would appear that 'Mr Someone' at my address (?) had requested a line from BT retail sales, who, have gone to BT Wholesale, who have requested my number from Pipex, as they think he lives at my address. Therefore, my line was disconnected.
I don't know if this is the answer but surely to prevent something similar happening in the future, the simple solution is to confirm with the customer that they want to transfer and especially when they have different name.
I am giong to rest after the stressful day I've had. Thanks to all for the input.

This definitely sounds like its Pipex's error - they should have cancelled the transfer directy with BT Wholesale once you contacted them following the letter you received on the 11 June.

There should have been no need fr you to speak to any part of BT.

The 'sending you a letter' saying 'sorry to see you leave' is designed to alert you to the forthcoming change on your line and contact your telephone provider if its unexpected to block it.

Of course, Pipex CS is not that renowned..

    Regards

    Update:
Through communications with wholesale my phone was reconnected. Had I gone through retail recinnection would have taken longer and my contract would have been for a year as oppposed to 3 months. this plan was preferable.

I was awakened this morning by my mobile informing me my landline is dead. I can't receive incoming calls, but I can ony make outgoing calls, at £31 + VAT + calls this deal could work out expensive, I can only shake my head because its no more than I have come to expect from BT.

for £29.99 (vat incl) Pipex offer unlimited calls and broadband. I honestly believe that BT have stitched me up.

It will be interesting to find out how long my wait on the end of the phone will be.

I'm pleased to say I now have 2 way calls, I still have broadband and I'm informed the matter is to be resolved. So now I can get back to browsing MSE as I usually do with some peace of mind. Thanks to all for you interest and comments. I've learned a lot about BT from this experience.
