I wholeheartedly agree with you wantmemory. As BT is currently causing me a while lot of inconvenience (ie 5 hours on the phone to them)and their not my service provider but it would appear the want to be, and today I'm left without any service as they have arranged my service be disconnected and transferred to no one without my authorisation.:mad: How can they be allowed to do this. Is it legal ???

I don't believe Pipex are the problem. Apparently, BT own the line and Pipex rent it, BT Wholesale and Retail are involved in some way. BT claimed an unknown name lived at my address and had requested a BT line. During the 3 +hours of calls I explained I was the owner and I pay the bills and no one of this name lived here. I was eventually given an apology with a promise the letter to Pipex saying I did not want to transfer would be sent.

Drunkstar maybe you know the solution, if you would share this information with me I can tell your colleagues next time I phone BT. I know Pipex tone sounded sympathetic, whereas whereas BT tone sounded indifferent and were eager to transfer me elsewhere to someone who they thought knew the answer to the problem.

I have already written to Ben the CEO and Obudsman, the whole situation is so frustrating. I will try ofcom now. Thank you computerwoman

If someone phoned BT and requested a line we will have started setting it up. Pipex would have been given 14 days notice of that request. it would have been impossible for BT retail to have done it any quicker. So while I dont know what exactly happened i do know that Pipex could have solved it before it did.

Surely a call to the residential line owner to confirm transfers would be the obvious action to take, or is this too simple a solution. It would eliminate the need for a dedicated link on Ofcom's common complaints page, suggesting it's a common occurrance, and, any dishonest telephone salespersons.

My understanding is that some Mr Somebody (totally different name altogether and never heard of before) requested a line from BT.

11th June. letter from Pipex telling me of the switch, which I acted on (3+ hours on the phone to BT). BT tell me this had happened, apologised, and promised to send the UIP (?) letter.

21st June, another of the above letters from Pipex (they hadn't received BTs promised letter) and the procedure began again.

Yesterday 25th June, my line was disconnected to no one, now I find myself with no landline.

Apparently BT wholesale are involved and their function is totally different from retail and ne'er the twain meet.

Pipex didnt need you to ring BT or get any letters from BT. they could have cancelled it themselves using the unfair trading forms that the CP's have.

Dont get me wrong, Im not saying BT is blameless as I dont know wghat exactly happened, but I can tell you that Pipex also screwed up and are letting BT take all the blame.

    Today's Update
Pipex explanation is: they are unable to cancel a transfer as the don't know who the new provider is, however I do believe they have been negligent in not acting on my 1st call to them 8th June, and again on the 21st. (mistake on earlier posting, 11th was when disconnection was due).
    But they can have
BT Wholesale say: they can connect me within an hour conditional to a 3 month contract with them @£31 + calls a month.
Time 3.40 pm. Phone has just been reconnected, by BT.

I may just be cynical but BT do have the monopoly and we are at there mercy. I have to ask the question is this a ploy by BT:confused: ?

I now agree that Pipex have been negligent in not acting on my complaint of 8th and 21st June, and had they done so, this inconvenience could have been prevented.
BTW I have a list of names of 20 BT and 9 Pipex staff who I have spoken with over this period.

I do hope you mean £31 + VAT + calls per quarter.

Now you're back with BT (I know it's not what you want), may I suggest clicking the 'HERE' link in my signature below.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Utter balls. they dont need to know who it is as its an automated system that all CPs get to use. Unless Pipex just dont train their staff to use it.

    Wholesale? Really?
