So far this month isn't going the best.
Fridge freezer packed in. The repair was going to cost more than a new fridge so we have had to bite the bullet and get one.
It is not how we wanted to start the new year!0 -

Thanks both.
We are meal planning... We are buying a cheap white board for the kitchen so we can plan the meals for the week on it, including ingredients that we require. Blue for what we have in the cupboards and red that we need to buy.
Hopefully this will sit us happily into my new budget for food of £50-£75 per week.0 -
Why go to the expense of buying a whiteboard? Use the pads you've already bought. The best advice is to buy nothing that isn't essential.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420

And if we do, our friend is a mechanic who just happens to work for Vauxhall, so parts are cheap... As I say though, hopefully nothing goes wrong. So far this month isn't going the best.

Probably not really what you want to hear at this stage but if you think about all the mechanical and electrical items you own and consider what sort of life you'll get from them, it can be quite shocking how much annual costs really are. By the time you add up the car and all your white goods and appliances and average out the long term repair or replacement costs (over, say, ten years), it does unfortunately become something worth specifically budgeting for, rather than being a series of 'one-off' disasters....0 -

I don't really want to be sticking bits of paper over the fridge or walls... Hence the white board as it will give us the visual stimulus to stick to our goals and it will be a cheap board, as I say.
As for the mechanical and electrical failures, I am constantly worried about what is next to go! It is most shocking.0 -
Poundland sell little whiteboards, for the amazing price of £1 ......Sealed pot challenge 822

Thanks Dawn
Will check them out.
Fridge is being delivered Friday so when we get all of our frozen goods back we can start meal planning to eat what we have firstly, then we will meal plan prior to shopping.
I had a play with my budget sheet and basically being stict as strict can be I hope to have £700 month to pay towards our debt. Being sensible though I plan on taking £500 out on the 1st of each month and putting it into a separate account, then at the end of the month, hopefully, we will have the other £200 left and I can pay the full amount off our largest card debt.
Do you guys think that this would be the best way to do this? Or should I just rip off the plaster and pay the £500 off and worry about the consequences later?0 -
Beginning to think I either did something shockingly bad in a past life, or I have the biggest pot of bad luck going.
Had my Uncle come round to take a look at a small leak that has developed in our bathroom ceiling, up he goes to the roof (It is the only flat roof on our house) and basically we need a new roof.
It is pretty old and when it was done roofers still used chip board under the felt, instead of ply board, so small leak in felt means completely sodden and rotting chip board......
Literally at my wits end about our luck of late.0
