Any site I've worked at usually stick to either 'flag' or 'mark' i.e. flag/mark it as spam/junk.

ETA: Thinking about it that pretty much applies to any action taken with email in that kind of sense.

    Well that's the question!

I am of the opinion that the verb is 'spam' e.g. "I am going to spam this email as I never want to see it again"

If you're going to 'spam' the email then that would mean you're going to send it out to recipients unsolicited.

No, I'd say that to "spam an email" is to take the action of forwarding it to all of your email contacts without thought as to relevance or content.

    eta. Mista_C got there first!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, you would say "spam an email".

However in the industry what Mista_C's uses is what is er used. (only i could get into a debate about lexicon and then fail with my sentence construction!)

  • We just say 'junk it'. The same way you'd tell somebody to 'bin it' if they had something you didn't want / need any more

I'd use the term "flag" ("flag" usually denotes an issue or problem.)

i.e. "I'll just flag this to my spam folder"

Most email systems use tick/check/flags to sort and filter out things including manually marking something as spam.
