and none of that hanging your head in shame. You are saving something rather than spending it all, that's a good thing :)

    Good morning All :)

Well, the sun is shining so we are off to Weston-Super-Mare for the day! It takes 2 hours to get there, so hopefully the rain will hold off for the rest of the day!

    Have a nice day :)

    Hi All :)

We had an amazing day at WSM! The sand sculptures were great and the town itself was beautiful! I thought I would hate it, but it was lovely and reminded me of old fashioned holidays on the beach, with donkey rides and the pier etc.

On the other hand, SOMEONE PLEASE STOP ME SPENDING!!!

I haven't spent any of my savings, but I am not going to be able to save much this month if I continue to spend as I am! I am torn between allowing a few hundred to be spent so that the boys and I can have a good time- it is half term after all! And I know that they eat me out of house and home when they are home from school for a week- especially the growing teen, although the 10 yr old isn't far behind him! But I want to save more!

I don't think my new way of money saving is working. I am going to continue with it for this month (no choice), but after this month I am going back to my old way, as I found it easier for some reason. Oh well, at least I learnt that lesson quickly!

It was hard getting back to work after our nice long weekend today! I bet most people feel the same today. I have been having some thoughts about work but am not sure if I am ready to share them yet or not. I just think that my thoughts aren't really organized enough to share them, and I am not sure of any plans myself yet.

    Plans for this week:

    -Sort out the recycling
    -Take boys ice-skating and cinema
-Buy a new DVD player, I STILL haven't got around to doing this!
-Clean out the car and get it valeted
-Nag/ask/moan at/persuade the boys to tidy their rooms

Pay your teen to valet the car. He will work for less.

Find some activities to do with them that are low/no cost. What about a hike and a picnic?

Thanks atush :) We can clean the car, but cant hoover it out as we don't have a driveway near our house, so we have to park it on double yellows if outside our house. The traffic wardens have no mercy around here either, so we take it to a lovely local place.

We are keen walkers (well, not so much the teen!) and often go on walks to the woods, the lake, the forests, the beach etc. But it all gets a bit 'samey' after a while. There is only so much walking that we can tolerate too. But I understand your point.
Will find some cheaper/free things. There are 2 walks that I keep wanting to go so will look into that.

Spending hundreds at half term? What will you be spending during the summer break?

When I was a boy (50+ years ago, so things may have changed slightly :) ), we would go to the beach or into the country (North Yorks Moors) and the only costs would be the petrol to get there, and an ice-cream, assuming the picnic food was much the same as we would have been eating at home. Actually, now I've retired, I go to the same places, and I don't even have to pay the petrol, thanks to the NCTS pass!

  • WTBSE - don't know if you are planning to stock up at Aldi soon, but I believe there is going to be a £5 off a £45 Aldi spend in tomorrow's Daily Mirror.

Good evening, I don't know where the time goes these days. It seems that I blink and it's time to go to bed.

Sorry your current method isn't working for you- at least you can say you've tried it and move back to your old ways to see if that helps with the spending.

I'm doing not too badly this week- the only thing ive bought since Sunday is two cartons of milk as we'd run out. Everything else seems to have done us for the week.

Also, we finally got the trade in money back for our phones so that's £200 added back into the savings. Clawing it back slowly but surely.

We have one more payment left on our loan in three weeks time and after that we'll be able to start paying off our credit card (it's on 2 years interest.free in case you think I'm mental for saving when I have debt). It's not much in the grand scheme of things but a few months of paying what would be the loan money into it and it'll be clear. Then we'll be able to save an additional £350!!

Trying so hard to stay motivated and thanks for the reminder about the Aldi voucher. Must remember to pick one up tomorrow.

This weekend I'm going out for dinner with friends, getting my hair done (roots!!) and going to a wedding reception with overnight stay and probably dinner. I'm going to be skint rather quickly this month!

I'll need to work out what we have to spend and try to allocate it to stop us from spending more than we need to.

What do your boys like doing? What about looking for a local vintage car show if they're into cars? They run them near where I am loads in the summer. Biking? Rollerblading? Fruit picking? My boy is only 18 months so sorry I've not got many good suggestions.

Don't forget to consider giving Geocaching a try :D
