More realistically, if she wanted to still treat it as HER flat to all intents and purposes then she should have arranged a VERY much lower rent with you. You're getting treated worse than a lodger. She certainly doesn't regard you as a tenant at all by the sound of it.
You're exactly right Money, she doesn't regard me as a tenant at all except when it comes to me paying rent and bills. She is trying to have her cake and eat it i.e. treat someone like a lodger, get them to pay like a tenant.
If I can't sleep again tonight I will think up some more names like bampot for her and post them tomorrow :rotfl:0 -
I received some good news today. The letting agency are satisfied with all my references (my current LL must have played ball) and I should get the keys to the new place next week. I'm just waiting for the LA to confirm the exact moving in date :j
I suppose my LL wants rid of me as much as I want to move out which is a shame as we had been on friendly terms. She was using the flat to see clients (at least I think she was as she was definitely here) yesterday but I didn't see her as I was at work and then the gym. I guess we'll just keep avoiding each other until I hand the keys back.
The next hurdles will be moving, check-out and getting my deposit back but for now I'm going to enjoy knowing I have a new home to go to.0 -

I signed the lease and picked up the keys for my new flat today :j
It's an unfurnished property so I can get all my belongings out of storage. At last I will have a toaster that is large enough to take a whole slice of bread and not just the bottom 3/4 :j
I've paid rent for my current flat up until 11th December so I'll just need to see how check-out and the return of my deposit goes.0 -
I know this is an old thread now but I thought I'd give an update for anyone who might be interested.
I moved all my things (expect the freezer contents which I shall do tomorrow night) out of Crazy's flat and into my new home at the weekend. I'm also going to take my meter readings tomorrow evening and hand back the keys. So almost there.
Yesterday I received and email from my LL telling me that she was going to sit down with her PA at the weekend to work out the utilities before returning my deposit which is funny because:- The utilities are in my name and paid by me. Except the phone line and broadband which is in her name but paid by DD from my account. The December payment is due tomorrow and I will cancel my DD afterwards.
- Neither her nor her PA know where the gas and electricity meters are in the flat.
- Neither of them know how to read a meter
- The gas and electricity companies have been chasing the LL for non-payment of bills in 2012 which her PA has tried to get me to pay in the past.

Personally I'd write back to her stating that you have been paying the utilities directly (don't forget to call them and give a final reading so she doesn't sting you for more). I'd also point out in no uncertain terms that if she doesn't return your entire deposit within a reasonable time frame (say 14 days) that you you will apply to the Sherriff Court to have it returned and that as she hasn't protected it as required by law, that she could be liable for 3x the deposit amount.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

take a photo of the meter readings with that day's newspaper (or similar dated item) in the shot so there can be no question about evidence of the readings given your LL's reputation0

Perhaps she believes she owes you money? She's going to calculate the days she was using the flat and make a contributory offer towards what you've paid! Ha I know that is highly unlikely.
Just close all of your accounts giving your landlords details, take a photo of the meter reads, just incase you need evidence. I'm sure you'll be pleased when this is all over!0 -

Now that I'm out the flat this has become a source of amusement for me. I'm interested to find out what, if any, deductions she and her PA come up with. If I don't get my full deposit back I will be applying to the Sheriff Court.0
